How come noone remembers the Flight Test Engineers?!
Thanks Canada TD, also for the answers to my previous Hurri question 🙂
Dave
No problems Dave….keep them coming as I have spare time on my hands and will always talk about my fav aeroplane!!! Incidentally, the 41H designation for the constructors number was also used on all Hawker products including the hunter!! I have a CCF plate marked CCF/41H etc
The stringers are always wood. Some are painted silver tho’ (particularly early aircraft and Canadian Car & Foundary built aircraft)
Gets my vote Oscar!!
Such threads as these, written with perfect hindsight are a insult to the vets, usually written by people who weren’t there and are academic.
The bombing of Germany was the only way the UK had of taking the war to Germany in the early part of the war.
As quoted earlier: ‘he who sows the wind reaps the whirlwind’ – from Shakespeare originally.
Now can we get back to historic aviation?
regards to all (not getting at you Moggy old chap)
Canada TD
If you have construction numbers,
Gloster should be prefixed 41H/G5 or G5
Hawker should be prefixed plain: 41H
Of course.. If there are any construction numbers.. I wonder where this is?
The construction number is located on a small brass plate (1.5 by 1″) located on Port Joint C (under the port left hand side of the main instrument panel). The Plate normally has the construction number, RAF serial, date and the legend Hawker Aircraft or Gloster Aircraft. The RAF serial is also to be found on the port side of the dog house. Some panels have the serial painted on.
Mostly the differences are minor in nature. Silly things like top of the combined flaps & U/C selector knob for instance and small cockpit diffs. Other changes would probably be initial build standard modifications. For example, when you build any aircraft you have to freeze the design and build it to the GA drawing. As the aircraft production run starts, some aircraft will have entered trials/service and mods identified. These will be saved up for fitting to say the nth aircraft onwards. In WW2 return to works to have amod package fitted might not have been possible. There would be differences in the way these mods were identified and embodied.
Boring answer….hope it helps!
HELLOOOO CANADA TD !!!! hope all ok dude, see you when ya back mate
Thanx Colin old chap!! Things are moving on all fronts and appear to be getting better, will send a pm when I get time!!
Ian
I had a 50p coin a few years ago commemorating I think the fortieth aniversary of Arnhem. It had a scene with gliders on the back. Does anyone remember this coin?
Cheers
Andy
Yep, that is a nice coin, need to get the Guernsey one!!. Tim Hortons have some really nice posters advertising the coins here with an RCAF side cap and DFC in a frame.
[QUOTE=Colin Wingrave]Firebird, Jeeps are top of my list of vehicles, you always smile in a JEEP 🙂
And also in a Messerschmitt Bubble Car too Colin!! :dev2:
The petitioners were at Duxford Legends this year. Unfortunately there was a large degree of sniggering and many dreamers. Even my Mum, who cries everytime she dwells on the loss of seeing Concorde fly again thought the petition pointless.
As others have said, the aircraft now needs a huge and technically suitable, not to mention rich organisation to stand in as design authority.
Armchair critics….don’t you just love ’em!! :dev2:
Seriously chaps, we have a flying Sea Vixen, it is not authentic but them that pays the bills and have the guts to get these aeroplanes up in the air deserve our respect and deserve to paint THEIR aeroplanes in whatever colour they like.
If the Vulcan was painted in my most hated scheme or colour, I would not care, I just want to hear, smell and see it with wind under its wings
To the whingers and critics….what have you done to further aviation heritage? I am with Oscar Duck on this one…..
Rattinghall?
Thanks for the info. I was aware that there was a twist in the aircraft, just didn’t realise how bad it was.
It is weird as the single seater was originally acquired to get VZ aiwworthy again following her nose over at Boscombe. I have a photo of the nearly complete airframe of VZ with the ‘replacement’ rear fuz somewhere. History reversed the two roles. Would be nice to see her fly again
