Yes, I do have color photos of Swiss Mustangs over the Mountains, but I am a bit reluctant to share them since they are destined for my book on the Swiss P-51’s.
Color shots are pretty scarce…..
Sorry
Martin
here you go

Martin, would you be kind enough to transmit actual registration of the Swiss built MS 406?

The idea of a mustang amongst the Alps sounds just stunning
It is, in fact 😉
Martin
Clostermann’s history in fact has been turned into a movie in the late 40’s – it’s French and called “Le Grande Cirque” – it has, however, never been published……
I have the book “Grey Eagles” at home and will post the ISB tonight.
It’s Bf-109G’s against P-51’s

Hey Ron
the Gathering aka “The Last Roundup” is Thursday 8th – Sunday 11th June 2006 at Reno, NV – so next year.
We had no P-51 crashes in lakes during or after WW2 – one ditched in River Rhine and was salvaged – two Mustangs crashed into Glaciers during the late 40’s early 50’s, and substantial parts of both have emerged since and were recovered/scrapped by the Swiss AF.
Thanks for the good wishes –
best regards
Martin
I guess I have always wanted to ask you this…..I bet in some secret mountian airfield in your lovely country you have hidden inside a hanger…maybe 10 to 15 vintage P-51’s hidden from view !!!!
Thanks a lot – had this one already, but your efforts are highly appreciated.
I wish this would be true, but unfortunately, the Swiss P-51 fleet was reduced to scrap during 1958/1960 – with many wings and fuselages being used for target practice in the years to follow…..
few parts survived – a number of wings went to the U.S. some 15 – 20 years ago, a few engines are at technical schools, and only one complete ship, a P-51D-25-NA survives.
No hidden P-51 treasures here.

Who was the pilot? Eichorn?
Eichhorn is in the States for test flying a Bf-109E
Martin
Yup – it was almost a dejà -vu experience – Legends 2003 came to mind.
I am glad he recovered
