His Jags seem to have gone up in price… I think they’re now looking at £10k for a gutted example. A good static SHAR was £30k when I last asked!

i agree mate, you look through a list of the SHAR’s that have been on everett aero, not one of them had more than 1300 hours on the airframe (with the possible exception of the crashed T.8 that they had/have)

    just ridiculous

    http://www.everettaero.com/zh806.html

    1291 total hours – built 1998 😮

In all fairness mate, I find the whole project, and the aircraft themselves fascinating. Certainly one of the most beautiful aircraft produced by the british aviation industry 🙂

forgetting the politics for a moment, an issue raised in the documentary that i posted concerning the uc, really has stuck in my head.

upon landing the main UC bogeys being dragged inward toward the airframe due to the angle of the UC legs.

did nobody consider this to be a serious problem at the time, anyone with a reasonable mechanical mind should be able to spot this?

the only one to have flown was blown to pieces, and duxfords example wasnt completed, so i would have thought thats what DHfan was getting at.

again i can see what you’re getting at, but there are plenty of political coverups? who killed kennedy is a good one imho

If you doubt my sources, Here’s my grandfathers website http://gittus.com/

…Just the sort of thing I was getting at previously. Knowing a guy who says something happened doesn’t mean that it actually happened. I seriously doubt if someone who was employed on machining processes would be afforded any information on who was visiting the premises or why. Just wouldn’t make sense. Likewise, if anyone turned-up on the factory floor it would be management, not a “government man” – the story just doesn’t add-up and these stories never do. But you can see how this story drifts into conspiracy therories so easily….

Since the story was one I recieved from someone I know and trust, not once have I known him lie, or his story deviate concerning what happened (Since he was the then manager of said workshop, im sure he would be allowed to who was visiting and why…)

In fact, i think that Jimmy Dell and Don Knight were at a party at my grandparents house the day the project was cancelled. my Grandfather told me that, he had arrived late home from work the day it was cancelled, and the pilots didnt know, my grandfather knew before they did, since, on his way home he had purchased an evening paper from the station, What he heard from numerous friends and colleagues over the following weeks, would not indicate what you believe. Take it from me that my grandfathers friends, would definitely be privy to all of the information concerning who was who, and what was done…

no offence intended chox, but I would certainly be more inclined to take the word of the people who worked on or around warton, and those involved with the project at the time, than someone contesting these accounts over the internet, whom I have never met (If you were involved with the project, then my apologies in advance)

    All the best

As an afterthought. This video certainly makes for an interesting listen, particularly what people have to say in part three

were they not all supposed to be scrapped? and indeed if you compare XR222 to XR220 it is obvious that she is missing a lot, compare the two main UC legs for example…

Chox, i understand your point, and yes i would do the same, what would you do with a mockup? and why would you keep the jigs?, eventually it would all have been cutup or re-used. My grandfather who lived and worked near warton said that upon visiting the site with don knight and jimmy dell a few days or so after the cancellation, said that they were being cutup and destroyed.

It wasnt just the destruction of the jigs and mockup. all of the technical drawings? (i know a chap who worked on the three axis machining used for the wing) and had said that government men came to his workspace, demanded all technical drawings, jigs and even the tools used to cut the parts.

it wasnt just cancelled, someone attempted to surgically remove the project alltogether. someone did their absolute hardest to make sure that there would be no way the project could be restarted, and no way that they would fly again

i can see all of what you are saying, to do with affording her ete. but amongst all these very plausible arguments, not one of you has fielded a decent reason as to why the programme was dismantled with such disgusting haste, and the absolute best dont to wipe any remenants of its material existence off the face of the planet. i know a few engineers who worked on the project at warton, and i have been told of the mockup being dragged out onto the pan, and being burnt in front of the people that made it. the jigs, material, even the cutting tools to make components, everything was destroyed… why?

this stinks of a politics, no right minded engineer would destroy any aspect of his work to this degree, no matter what! its just not the done thing.

so regardless of the debates as to there being no requirement for the TSR.2 or not beign able to afford her, there was DEFINITELY something else at play here
