thats quite fascinating!!! cheers mate, learn something new every day XD
a wankel type rotary???
id say that they’re rotax rotary engines but thats a WILD GUESS
pagen, I think i may have worded myself rather poorly. having thought about it
with the phantom and the buccaneer, I meant that these aircraft were bought, instead of the TSR.2, though the TSR.2 was designed for low level, nuclear capable strike (correct me if im wrong) so had they purchased it, I think you could safely cross off the buccaneer from Raf service.
I think that her role as a supersonic bomber, would have meant a lesser order for tonkas and jaguars (neither aircraft realistically being that much older than the TSR.2)
I certainly agree with your statement that TSR.2 = No Vulcans.
I know these are all opinions, but she was never allowed to prove hersef. im naffed that i cant find the source i was looking for, but ive read things like “the most promising aircraft produced by the british aviation industry” and other quotes to her exceptional performance.
my favorite example of this is the lightning Vs TSR.2 “drag race” if you will
i believe it was beamont at the controls when he lit the after burner on one of the engines and she began to accelerate away from the chase lightning, who had to engage reheat in both engines to try and keepup…
with a UC redesign (which was underway at the time of cancellation) she would have been a world beating aircraft, and up at the top with the best of them
She is definitely jaw droppingly beautiful!!!
i have one for Xplane 9, http://www.flightsim.com
if you login/register and then search the file libraries for TSR.2 you’ll find several models 🙂

this one works 🙂
i had heard about this, i wish she’d gone through with it, what an aircraft we could have had!!!
have you had a look at the link above? to do with the what if, model?
looks bloody fantastic
heres a cockpit shot and a comparison of size to a a paint practice harrier that i got bored with and a FG.1 Phantom that needs starting again lol

she would still make a good platform imho – new electronics suite, redesigned main gear? what sort of engines would be available now? american ones?
hey mate, does this mean you’re back with us?
concerning whirlygigs, theres one not far from me at the ex Raf Long Marston – Xp346
i think had things gone differently in the 60s and the several major projects not cancelled, we would have a very different aviation industry in this country
P.1154
P.1121
TSR.2
VC.7/V.1000
just a thought?
But hey what does it matter.. just as long as the home secretary’s husband can pay for his porn films with tax payers money.!;)
or some other moron increase top end tax to 50%…
to be fair, the zombies scare me most, not teh germ0nz 😀
hardly a positive outlook 🙁
painted up like that she doesnt look dated at all! i bet she would still be a world beating aircraft!
this same topic was one that i was debating with my dad, and we concluded that it would (governments excluded) have replaced four Raf aircraft in its service, these being the phantom, jaguar, tornado and buccaneer, to a lesser extent we agreed that they would have taken some of the harrier workload as well
if she was still in service, then i would have thought that the UK aviation industry would have the resources to design and manufacture an entirely new aircraft, on its own. TSR.3 perhaps? 😀
