a sade fate to befall such a base 🙁
though i didnt say id seen it in the news …
Surely if you’re all so offended by crashes on you tube, then the answer must be DON’T LOOK FOR THEM!!!
Ive seen the spitfire crash on television more than twice as im sure many people have, the media are cold and heartless. the reason behind looking for the mosquito, id never seen one fly for real, mosquito, consequently, i looked up “mosquito display” on youtube, found a video that had no mention of the crash in its title, though the video was just that. I was a bit shocked to see what happened.
This isnt the first time eddywinch has bought up the subject of RM689 so he may have a personal tie to the accident, justifying his offence at the video being posted on youtube
I know capital letters are intimidating, i dont think that now is a good time to use them, certainly may cause the younger of us to shed a tear :p
What really pi**es me off are these people who compile videos of the “best” crashes, put them to music and post them up on YouTube – and the people who comment on them. “Woah, awesome work, dude!” What’s really awesome about possibly seeing someone’s life being taken away? Not a hell of a lot if you ask me…!
the ones with bloody ridiculous songs that you would expect to hear backing a slapstick comedy!!! a bit idiotic
i totally agree a total tragedy, there is a video of the mosquito crashing on youtube, but at least the chap who uploaded it edited it so that the actual impact isnt in the video, still all crashes are tradgedies and people just dont treat them as such 🙁
sounds very interesting, i remember hearing about afterburners as a considered modification to the sea vixen, and the same problems were encountered, would very much like to hear more of this vampire though, i hope someone has pictures 🙂
wouldnt that have roasted the elevator and damaged the booms?
Yay. Got post no. 558. Do I get a gold star?:D
no… but you do get a luxury christmas hamper :p
you aren’t wrong, the bit of it moving off as well, definitely looks superimposed or some sort of CGI
i know there are quite a few aircraft related street names in some of the villages that surround Raf benson,
in reference to the didcot claim, not to forget that on the downs about 15 miles south there were bombing ranges, with Raf harwell to the south west. i figure that some of the street names could have come from aircraft? also im pretty sure that the powerstation that scars the oxfordshire land was built on a MOD site, as well as the army barracks at the west of didcot towards the A34
thats brilliant 🙂 id heard that thats how XR222 managed to survive!
Soon being the operative word here, the word on the grapevine is Mike’s airworthy spares stock wont hold out too much longer.
jeez, surely he’ll be able to comission new ones (though massively expensive)?
oddly enough, my other half prefers the griffon spitfire, could be to do with the bulges on the cowling 😉 she prefers the clean victor B.1 over all of the other V bombers, and thinks that the TSR.2 Looked stunning in the way that a bird of prey does, she likens the TSR.2 to one, and im inclined to agree 🙂
and even then XD818 came within mere hours of scrapping
reallly??? how and when did that happen, and how did she escape the axe?
My guess would be cos theres only 1 “complete” example at cosford and it had lots lf trouble with some sort of spar (correct me of im wrong) in its raf days

after the switch from high to low level flying, this change in operational proceedure also laid rest to the victor as a bomber. the low level flying accelerated the fatigue on the wingspars. what brought it to the Raf’s attention was, a valiant coming into land, the crew heard a MASSIVE bang, and thought something had fallen off. after having landed it was obvious that one of the wings was drooping considerably, and when the engineers got inside, the spar was found to be cracked/snapped. i believe the whole fleet was immediately grounded after this discovery. i think all of the valiants bar one or two, showed serious fatigue in the wingspars.
i would have said one of the main reasons that, XD818 is still in one piece, would be that it dropped the first british atomic weapon.
