    i think its sad

the last time i saw black 6 before hendon was in the air at DX, i think that this is a terrible shame, could she fly again if enough money was injected. my understanding is that she is unique being the only 109g to have flown with her original Db engine. is this the truth?

    Cold War Museum

It does look rather crowded, granted. the digital camera i took with me really doesn’t give the building justice, not only are there all three V bombers in there basically on the floor, but at the other end, there is a york, hastings and a belfast!!! its a colossal building. cleverly the victor and valiant are jacked up about three feet to enable you to walk under the wings etc, which enables more people to walk around. i think the way its done is rather clever, the v bombers are not lit massively by natural light, which magnifies their brooding presence hugely, also i think that the darkness is to give some feel for what they were designed to do, drop nuclear weapons, a horrific purpose. however at the other end where the aircraft from the berlin airlift are (the york and hastings, dont know if the belfast was involved) are light by natural light, from the window at the far left of the hangar, see the posted photos above, which gives them a much happier feel, they weren’t designed to carry nuclear weapons! all in all the whole thing is an experience that is unique, my grandfather and i arrived at 11:30 and didnt leave until about four o’clock, not once did he or i look at our watches, just became totally absorbed in memories (for him) and sheer awe (for both of us) im going again when i get back from uni in december

I’m just recounting the conversation i had with her owner yesterday, though i have no idea that he was telling the truth or not, i saw no reason for him to lie about her, also in reference to the sea prince seats on ebay a while back, the sea prince has had her main door pried off 😡

The sea prince and meteor are indeed owned by a chap called Gordon. I met him at long marston this afternoon, and we had a chat about the aircraft, it seems, that as david has quite rightly said she was very close to being airworthy, the story is that gordon had restored her to the point where she was just about airworthy, waiting for the cross feed for the centre wing tank to be sorted. some rotten bu9ger, broke into the poor aircraft, and stripped every single instrument and piece of electrical equipment from her, thus rendering her completely, for want of a better word bug9ered. the reason for the inactivity, was due to a family tragedy, and he lost all motivation for working on the aircraft. it also seems that there are plans afoot to start working on the aircraft again and get them cleaned up :D:D:D so i promptly gave him my contact details, as i live locally. I really hope that this may be the beginning of a brighter future for these airframes 😀

blast, i meant to take one of her, as far as i can see she looks to be right in the middle of it, scaffolding everywhere, minus her spinners, seems to have a fresh white coat of paint from the cockpit glazing down but i couldt tell what was what really, sorry

yeah, definitely, my grandfather is not really an aviation enthusiast, but he lived near warton at the time many of the aircraft were testing. i think he knew jimmy dell and don knight 😀 but for him to see again all of these magnificent aircraft, was spellbinding, he walked around them all, almost in a dream. the day was worth it just for that 😀

i remember seeing that, as my dad lives in Witney and used to go flying at brizzy a lot. i think the VC10 in question was cannibalised for spares in the end wasnt she? im sure someone told me that it wasn’t a violent smack down at the rear, rather a graceful seesaw and she “gently” settled onto her tail?

cracking day, though i have to say, the surrounding areas to the main entrance hall, now feel empty and desolate without the airliners, and all of the aircraft that were once outside. brilliant that they all have permanent accommodation though 😀
