hendon is a ghastly place, there is no life in those aircraft, no smell nothing. beautiful they may be, its a graveyard of ghosts! they dont seem to have the “machine spirit” that all other aircraft at museums have
surely an aircraft that has spent 5 years outside, is not worth £60,000 and is definitely not “on the button” i would have thought its going to take a lot of work to put them back in the air again, no?
aren’t there two fireflies? one for static and one for restoration to flying condition?
how many chavs can you fit in a ejector seat?
Damn good question, anyone asked martin baker if they have tested that yet, ill test a couple of chavs for free :diablo:
Smelly, Noisy things……
Smelly and noisy ??? isnt that what its all about?
last couple again lol, the way the lightning is displayed is just spectacular, 410mph in a mossie??? 😮 i didnt know they were that fast jeez now i want one instead of a spitfire :diablo:
and last couple of the valiant which stunned me, an awesome sight, to see the three V bombers together, the only place in the world you can do so. the cold war museum is itself a piece of art, as much as the art it contains! the circle of death, shows the devastation a one Megaton thermonuclear weapon produces, the orange circle dead over cosford, “heat of the sun” gradually getting less and down to skin blisters at wolverhampton! 😮 the russians have a 100 Megaton bomb, that causes third degree burns at 100km 😮 its slightly chilling knowing that most of the aircraft were designed for one purpose in mind!
some more 😀 😀 😀 just a quick footnote though, why is the short SB5 the only aircraft with a “fit for historical preservation” notice the type 188 was going to be destroyed in much the same manner as XR219:rolleyes:
this wasn’t the aircraft that lost a significant portion of one of its wings as a result of said collision?? (i forget which one) i think its been discussed on here before
regards
Ben
welcome to the forum, those are fascinating photographs. are they worth recovering does anyone know? 😀
Some(egads-quite some) years ago, cannot come up with what year, while heading into the huge airshow at MacDill, Tampa Florida. As I was crossing the acres of parking to get to the flight line, this giant, camoflaged delta shaped monster loomed up over the hangars in a steep bank belching fire and smoke. I don’t think I have ever seen anything that big turn that sharp, that low! And the sound. WOW! She landed by the time I got to the flightline and they kept her well back from the throng. My first and last to see her, unless I should get over the pond at some point. Don’t figure she will be visiting here again:(
You could always visit the one thats preserved at the Eighth Air Force Museum, which is in louisiana if im right, a lot closer to you than flying all the way over here 😀
LOL its definitely not a half moon now is it :diablo:
really must have been something else to see that!!! :diablo: damn good book by the way:D
permanent withdrawal of flight status ??? my uncle oft makes the comment, “how tempting it must be to just pull back eh??” in reference to XM655 🙂
how much would it cost to dismantle her properly, and transport her via road to another airfield where she would be have a secure future? surely she isn’t the worst condition Vulcan around?
