none of them should be scrapped, if they belong to museums who in hells name has the right to say that a museums aircraft should be scrapped in order to maintain other museums examples, that are more “worthy” of the parts, just because theirs isn’t as good, i think that people should ba llowed to look after the aircraft at long marston! (should being the keyword) As fas as im concerned I would love to see 558 fly but not at the expense of losing another vulcan, one has already been scrapped recently with woodford’s one soon to follow. who would have thought 40 years ago that there would only be one, complete example of a valiant left in one piece with only two whole cockpit sections and a half section, no one the only reason this one is left is that it dropped our first nuclear weapon. These aircraft should all be preserved by rights, however it all takes time and money. i think someone has already said that “Culling” an airframe would be a good idea? thats a horrible thought 🙁

if memory serves the Tu-4 had turboprops, instead of radial engines, or was this the exported chinese version?

Definitely a kennel, if memory serves this was generally used in an anti shipping role, carried by the Tu-16 Badger “B” one under each wing, must have been one hell of a long take off run with two missiles weighing 6100 lbs…..each

pretty sure it is fake, if you look at the glare on the rear fuselages, its Exactly the same, all shapes on it etc, correct me if im wrong but there would be differences? no?

it would have almost certainly been a British version of the twin mustang, same controls etc, anyone think so?

google maps shows a victor sat next to a vulcan at cosford, i haven’t been there in an age but is it still there, or was this the B1 that was scrapped?

    http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=Cosford,+Shifnal,+Shropshire+TF11,+United+Kingdom&sll=52.644222,-2.31679&sspn=0.002383,0.005021&ie=UTF8&ll=52.642959,-2.314317&spn=0.004765,0.010042&t=k&z=17&om=1

It seems to be a very old photograph, because forgive me if im wrong, but it looks like there are 3 Jet Provost’s sat on the ramp outside the farthest hangar to the right, and the airliner collection is still intact, can anyone shed some light on this? 🙂

Trying to loop any “big bird” is just not a good idea, especially if the airframe is 60 years old and they couldn’t when they were young. A roll is a different matter all together, just make sure you have the altitude. i recall a film clip of a fellow flying a B-52 “aggressively”, 90 degree bank a 100′ altitude…..he touched a wingtip and that was it!

Even my flight sim will yell overspeed and tear my wings off if I fly too aggressively (unless I turn that silly reality thing off! Unlimited ammo and gas!).

seen that film, the pilot was being daft, there was a large buildup of stupid maneuvers before he ended up crashing it, essentially he was flying it like a fighter aircraft, i think he ended up clearing a ridge in the desert at full whack at something like 50 feet. i have been told that the crash was due to him stalling the port wing as he came through a bank which ended up being more than 90 degrees, you can see that after a point in the film the port wing drops significantly. When you also consider that large aircraft like that don’t have ailerons, they have spoilerons or whatever they are called, i have been told that they just don’t have the surface or generate the force required to completely roll an aircraft let alone recover one from a steep bank in the B52 that the colonel was flying.

here’s the video, if you listed to the commentary from the newsreader, it seems that the crash was inevitable due to manner in which the pilot was flying her.

Looking at the other airfields listed there, does anyone know whats happening with West Raynham? it was apparently sold for auction last year, a shame to see it all demolished considering that its a complete base still. hangars and all

At present, no airworthy P-47s in the UK (TFC has one “on the go”, though). The ex-TFC “No Guts, No Glory” now has a new owner Stateside.

well it was rather hot i could have stupidly mistaken the harvard ive seen at wellesbourne for a P-47 *abject shame at having made such a mistake* 😮
