MAM’s certainly will never fly again, its days working the North Sea oil rigs (with floats fitted) have really taken their toll on the airframe..

i take it you mean in terms of corrosion?, i was under the impression that the things that have a lifespan on on helo’s are the blades engine and gearbox (all power linkages as well) but not the airframe as there is generally no aerodynamic stress on the airframe? I always thought they looked beautiful in the air, and i just hope that one day another gets flown, i suppose the problem with a 40 year old helo is finding serviceable blades 🙂

ah, but a better looker, not that that counts for much 🙂 i just dont know why so few victors are left they were only retired in 1993. ten years after the vulcan and yet there are so few complete victors left, bit rotten really 🙁

it saddens me that the one at woodford is going to be scrapped she was almost at the point where she could do fast taxi runs in 2000 and now she’s going to be scrapped 🙁 i dont think that these airframes should be allowed to be scrapped, though i understand that it is unavoidable in some cases, it just is terribly sad to see the remnants of our airforce be cutup with no dignity, i would have loved to see more than one vulcan in the air at one time, judging from what one sounds like, words probably could not describe the sound of 4 or 5, there are too few examples of certain aircraft left in this world! only one valiant, very few victors, to my knowledge there aren’t any stirling’s left anywhere. a crying shame 🙁

Anyone have any news on 603, is she still of this world? such a shame that we are probably going to lose two of these aircraft in as many years 🙁

Good lord! I have a question – what factual Naval Encounter is this travesty meant to represent? I would have hoped it would have been as accurate as that well known British naval epic, “Carry on Jack” which showed amongst other laudable facts captured Spanish Ships of the line being brought home to Blighty by 4 crewmen each, frigates leaving harbour under NO sail, and a flogging didnt really hurt if you wore a string vest!

Seriously, I think a British strenghth is the ability to laugh at ourselves, and we are in danger of becoming as “touchy” as a lot of others are, Its a FANTASY movie, this is like complaining the Ghosts are not accurate, or Davy Jones tentacles are the wrong shape!633

I agree with this, it is complete fiction. an excellent movie for what it is. if people thought it was a “travesty” then why has it made more money in its first week than any other film there has ever been? :p :rolleyes: back to the thread though, if peter jackson is making it then it will be excellent and as true to the original, as is humanely possible

yes, i believe both prototypes were lost in accidents, leading to their total destruction though i don’t know the causes. still, as is the case with many aircraft, it would be awesome to see one fly :diablo:
