    Hi Mike,

Not much use now but, I sold one of the Horizon indicators at Newark last weekend, for a lot less than these:

However, I do still have another with a broken glass front that you are more than welcome to have for nowt!

As Ian said above, they are quite elusive now but, certainly not unobtainable. I am particularly after one still attached to it’s column! (And an FRS 2 grip too!)

The one in my picture actually comes from XV738, the first production GR Harrier to enter service, I have the F731 somewhere but, we have moved house recently and my archive has been temporarily dispersed!

    David,

Out of interest, are you after the earlier ‘Dunlop’ style or, the later ‘Dowty’ type handle?

    Crikey!

Quite an exclusive club then? Are you at liberty to say where the rest are, geographically?

Even as a committed/staunch stick grip collector, I have always sought both a VC-10 and a B-47 yoke. Both aircraft served at RAF Brize Norton where I grew up and I have great nostalgic connections! I am just kicking myself for not chasing after the other ex-Brize aircraft yokes that have appeared on, yes that auction site, such as Belfast, Andover and Britannia, those I stupidly overlooked because they were ‘yokes’ not grips! Hrrumph!

Certainly recoverable and well worth a a go Ian! Not many ‘real’ Phantom B8’s appear these days.

However, I received a nice little package from across the pond from ‘Captain Nick’ at the Airline Pilot’s Historical Society, one very convincing ‘re-pro’ hub cap for my newly acquired B-47 yoke.

I initially thought of the Canberra too but, there is no tail plane incidence trim facility on this handle although, it is a possibility perhaps? The numbers are casting numbers and quality marks unfortunately.
A nice little oval plate with a Dunlop drawing number on would have been nice : )

I have a picture/drawing (somewhere), of the hand controller for the ‘Bulpup’ missile made by Dunlop, which is similar in size hence my reply in #4

    I’ll keep searching!

    Hi again,

I would agree with you that it looks as though it has been ‘shortened’ at the Dunlop factory for a specific reason. It may have well been produced as a weapon or radar controller and possible AFV use too perhaps? Or, even a ‘one off’ experimental fit for something? I certainly have not come across one before. I don’t suppose there are any part numbers to give a clue?
    Very interesting!

    Hi Aircraft,

The Meteor used a number of ‘straight’ control handles and the top half of your handle is very AC1400 like but, looking at your pictures it is difficult to see if it has been deliberately cut down from that original handle. Can you show a picture of the base of the grip (looking up to where the wires are emerging), to see if it has been deliberately cut or, factory finished? Are there any screw holes at the bottom of the grip?

The handle should be (for a Meteor), an all in one mould that includes the lower part that fits to the column including a plug socket (i.e. no bare wires dangling out of the bottom of the handle) and houses the brake lever. I have added a picture of the AC10800 F8 Meteor handle to show.

    Beware!

The ‘D’ type roundel wartime extremely glossy ‘genuine’ piece of Airspeed Oxford is back but, he has lowered his price to £220! (362114353999) However, he has just managed to offset that reduction by offloading a poor quality tailors copy, (advertised as genuine), of a Victorian Distinguished Service Order (362105364883) for over a grand!

    Superb Tony!

A right hand to match my left hand perhaps?

However, VC-10-derness apart, I recently took charge of these two grips from my ‘contact’ in France. A front and back seat pair from a Mirage 2000N, the front grip is the same as the later grip fitted to the Mirage F1 but, the rear grip is very similar to a ‘bland and empty ‘RAF SAMM 212’ Jaguar grip.

Did you buy it then Ian?

JC, I will try to scan the page and those of the part numbers to help identify the components if you like? Got to dig the scanner out of the garage but, first locate it!

    Hi JC,

Is this any use? If so, I can try and scan it or photocopy it and send it to you?
