At the moment we can assume the Su-50 between the SH and F-35 in stealth capabilities, when the Russians had not managed to develop new materials to overcome the related setbacks from the present ones…

At the moment I am less optimistic about the the poor finish of the prototype in mind.

Come back Schorsch!! All is forgiven, it is a “mildly stealthy Eurofighter” after all!

I guess pouring 10tons of RAM to reduce the Su-35BM’s RCS by a factor of 10 is not the way to go about these things. Somebody should tell them.

Agreed. When importing all the cutting-edge precision machine-tooling & fabs, it’s important to have the user-manuals properly translated from Japanese & German. Obviously, they rushed into this like they knew everything and were putting together some piece of garden furniture.

If I have read that right, are you seriously suggesting the T-50 prototype has an RCS better than the F-35?
And how will the final version be a world leader if it matches the F-35’s RCS but doesn’t match the F-22’s RCS, by my logic the F-22 would still be the world leader in that department.

Have you noticed how ‘straight-out-of-the-box’ all ‘professional’, ‘semi-professional’ or just the well-informed have been automatically comparing the T-50 to the F-22- the F-35 doesn’t even get a look in. Even some (premature) alarm bells regarding F-22 cancellation & export.
    It’s like some subconscious drift.

If the T-50 was a turkey in the RCS department, do you think the Indians would be so keen to sign on the dotted line and hand over $Xbns?, LM would be clamouring all over the IAF, again the F-35 has never had a look in.

Sukhoi’s aiming for (at least) F-35 stealth with uncompromising flight performance, at least matching and in some areas exceeding the F-22.
Time will tell, but a very solid start, no?

    If Lamborghini made stealth fighters:

Where’s Schorsch btw? I remember him saying that the PAK-FA would be a ‘mildly stealthy’ Eurofighter, if that.
He’s fallen off the radar recently.

Putin was the one that threw 2013 out there. That may be a directive, but it isn’t the gospel truth.

This isn’t a delay in any sense.

Putin should learn to keep his shirt on & his mouth shut (no offence your uber imperial excellency). Whilst reviewing the Su-35BM @ KnAAPO last year, he asked Sergei Bogdan “Is this the PAK-FA?”…

Sergei Ivanov is fully clued-up on the programme- and doesn’t like to get egg on his face, he’s always maintained sometime around 2015.
Optimistically, I think the pre-production models with definitive 5G engine will arrive @ Lipetsk around then (imho).

    Spot the difference:

Is this like the de facto ‘Anti-PAK-FA Thread’? Should I leave?

Not to be taken literally, but nevertheless some interesting specs:

    http://paralay.iboards.ru/download/file.php?style=12&id=9319

Still maintains 10 missiles carried internally, I think 8 is closer to the mark (3 abreast, staggered in the main w/bay, 1 each in the side?)
Imho, that camo may suit the the Su-35BM, but I’m not sure about the PAK-FA. Guess we’ll have to wait for pics.

‘Several’ more flying prototype T-50s will be built in addition to the 3 already in existence (though only T-50-01 is the flying example).

PAK-FA’s on board sytems & avionics will be tested on other aircraft including the Su-35BM, which will test-fly NIIP’s AESA. This probably explains why several more Su-35BMs are being built to join both projects’ flight-test programmes.

PAK-FA is currently undergoing flight safety certification flights (2nd today) and will be moved to Zhukovskii in due course to commence the bulk of it’s flight test programme.

Notable discussions on other fora are regarding the definitive 5G engine.
They’re calling it Article 127, as opposed to the current 117, and they suggest the PAK-FA intakes were specifically designed for this engine.

They’re aiming for ~18T of thrust (that’s 3 more than the current 117!!)…but much depends on ending the bickering between NPO Saturn & MMPP Salyut and declaring a programme leader (status & ca$h)- projected for Q1 2010.

    …over_G!!! DOOO SOOOMETHING!!!

“Very balanced towards non US stuff” my ar$e it is! I’d rather go through the pain of getting my shoulders, a bit of chest and both arm sleeves tattoos again than believe that…While some sadistic git is pouring lemon and salt on my wounds!

A few years ago a US aeronautical engineer posted on that forum that he would expect the upcoming PAK-FA to at least match the F-22 in RCS reduction, and gave a technical run-down as to why he thought so- he was laughed off the forum and never posted there again.
However, recently I’d bet he’s been wearing a broad, cheesy grin on his face!

defpro still thinks the World is flat

I was led by that pictures of the Su-35BM and the Su-50.

    http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showthread.php?t=97567&page=4

What structure did carry the engines and inlet-system by that?
    The Su-50 is a high-wing design.

Sens, the pic below accurately depicts the (highly likely to the point of being utterly & fantastically incredulous if it wasn’t) lateral line-of-sight duct around the MLG bay to the compressor face.

The left-hand side of the compressor may be visible (see path of red line) but it won’t be- because obviously from this view we can’t see the significant elevation of the engine (vertical plane of the duct) wrt the intake. Savvy?

The World is round. So can we move on please?

Your are correct. The Russian do stick to proven solution, whenever it is possible.

Not quite. The Su-34’s MLG may protrude the intake by some 10%, but 90% of the structure is housed in that huge fairing.
With PAK-FA, it’s the other way round, there’s no such fairing, hence nearly the entire MLG structure is housed in the intake cavity.- see PiBu’s 3-view above.
