News on Indo-Russian FGFA:
close to an actualy production aircraft, or will it be more of a pre-production/ proof of concept type?
Does anyone have an educated guess based on past Russian programs?
I think it will be a proof of concept/ pre-production type, it’s safe to assume it’s the most important Russian defence programme with alot of industry restructuring around it. KnAAPO recently added high-precision machine tools from Mitsubishi & Toyota to its manufacturing inventory.
It’s interesting to note that although NAPO (Novosibirsk) was tasked with producing the fore-section, they later said they simply didn’t have the precision tooling to do the job, hence the entire aircraft will be produced at YG KnAAPO. As you can hardly regard NAPO’s production Su-34s as ‘shoddy’!- it bodes well for PAK-FA.
Having said that, I don’t think the Russians can risk a back-to-the-drawing board scenario as per Su-27A, or (to a lesser extent & more recently) by Boeing’s SH.
I think they’ll seek to avoid, as far as possible, the F-35 LRIP ‘rolling test programme’.
Which is the ‘blue picture’? NPO Saturn’s (03/07)…I think by the number of times we’re hearing malo zametnost as a priority design feature -means canards can be ruled out.

Perfectly good advice, and the three of you would be wise to follow it. Tossing insults around for absolutely no reason whatsoever other than the fact that you simply disagree with the other person is a good way to get yourself evicted.
Sorry SOC, my alter ego’s a Vedantist and he was having a bad sunday- got carried away by his cosmic duty to obliterate ignorance & stupidity. It won’t happen again.
However, I beg to differ on the “tossing insults” bit, I was making statement(s) of fact. As you well know, info on PAK-FA is very difficult to come by, however if careful interpretation, devoid of wild speculation, of Russian (& Indian) industry sources is going to be derided at every turn by those whose only motive is to antagonise, then the informative function of the thread is lost.
I stand by everything I said, feel free to impose any sanction you see fit.
Assuming Malaysian order is done in 2008. 35 fighters per year is pretty high for India/Algeria alone. or India does not intend to make indigenous.
Unless Demeschenko has unwittingly revealed that the follow-on order for the MKM, which was in competition with Boeing’s SH- is done & dusted.
You know, having read the following report, I think India’s getting a good deal for it’s $8 billion contribution. I wonder if the Russians will ask to be paid in Euros? Just so long as it doesn’t look like a twin engined F-35- I’ll be happy!
This one’s for you SOC, it’s time to move a step-up from ‘Jane’s’:

That equals next to nothing if they failed to provide a serious replacement policy….
…So, if you don’t see anything wrong in foreign Army marching into a country ignoring lack of any UN resolutions entitling them to do so, throwing out the ruler at their will, seizing oil fields, installing a puppet government and securing reconstruction contracts for themselves. Is that the idea of the democracy you champion?
OUCH!! You’re starting to sound like Admiral Fallon!
Just looks evil to me. I think you’re confusing ‘professional’ with ‘superficially powerful’.
Errr…..That guy’s a member of FSB ‘Alpha’…nothing more to be said.
Sorry, I didn’t mean grOOmi, though it’s possible he works at KnAAPO. First flight in ’09 is nothing new, with construction of the first prototypes completed in late summer ’08.
Regardless, the IAF/MoD must have liked what it saw to contribute such huge sums, besides there’s no rush, with an aim to avoid the pitfalls plaguing the F-35 flight-test programme- their time frames will not be that far apart.
I think we’ll be pleasantly surprised.
Looks pretty professional to me! 😎

From an insider – a lot of titanium is used in PAK-FA. He thinks that the first flight will took place next year. So we must wait one more year 🙁 .
More than 39%? (as per F-22). I think I know who your ‘insider’ is. Judging by his posts- he appears the real-deal;).
The finest soldiers in the World (at least at regimental level), are the Gurkhas, and it’s a shame the Britishers treat them like dirt.
You sure learn a lot from the tube, don’t you?
N.B. may have to ‘launch in stand alone player’
TVC makes your MKM ‘glow’!!
