    Metal Leading Edge….

…..they’re only fabric covered from aft of the leading edge, in the same manner as many a Corsair wing.

I understand that there are plans for the old girl and she will soon be moving to a new home under cover for restoration.

More details when the owner wishes to divulge no doubt.

    Thanks for the details.

Would anyone have access to a copy of the relevant AP for this kit?

    Thanks

    Thanks David,

I’m aware of the issues that Provost’s have, but would still prefer to have one to work on as we see fit. Working on them can be just as much fun as flying them.

A great shame, but given that was a further eight years before I was born into this world I can’t feel too much personal regret.

It does, however, remind me of a photo I was once shown by a friend, the now sadly late Mark deVries while I was in RSA showing the very substantial remains of a Hurricane the SAAF Museum had until, I understand, the mid 1980’s. Very restorable by todays standard, these were sadly scrapped.

Wasn’t one of the last Typhoons also at Rufforth in the 50’s. A composite on gate guard duties if my fading memory serves me corectly. Photo anyone?

No chance without a new wing. On inspection a number of 1/4 inch holes were found drilled in the forward lower spar boom in the area of each undercarriage bay.

More of a very in depth overhaul than what would today be regarded as a complete “rivet replacing” rebuild. That’s not to say they didn’t do a good job though. According to the engineers I’ve spoken to in the past who were involved with the work it was a very tidy aeroplane.

Dunlop were the main supplier of tyres and tubes. Never heard of water ballasted tyres being used.

I’m not sure if it will help, but we have a full set of P-51A,B/C, D, & H drawings on paper. If you need copies of any drawings drop me the part numbers and I’ll see what we can do.

Should a spare Sabre or two be kicking around and available for use, I can think of another type which would be infinitley more deserving of resurection.

And there’s already a fair amount kicking about………
