hi there, I know that a lot of people went to Farnborough this year and took pictures of the JF-17, prominently including Munir of Pakdef (formerly PLA of keypub). I am wondering if any of you gentlemen would be willing to allow me to use some of your pictures for an article on the JF-17 coming to Farnborough.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me.

    thanks

saab-2000 is apparently better in hot and high conditions and that was if i recall correctly, one of the reasons that it was preferred by the paf.

Why is that a question of depth and not width? If the missiles are arranged in a row (i.e. on the same horizontal plane), it doesn’t matter whether there are two or three of them, as long as the width of the bay is sufficient.

because of 3 dimensional arrangement rather than the 2 dimensions you’re probably thinking of.

    My reference to dominance was in relation to the quoted article. The article quoted that the Pak Fa was;

    Flex,

Your #1 has to be split into two categories. Pak Fa’s on Russian ground or in a client state.

Attack on Russian ground is not likely, even today, let alone at some point in the future.

That leaves client states. The US Dominance in this are is not likely to ever be challenged.

I don’t think anyone in his right mind would claim that a banana republic with a dozen PAK FAs would stand a chance against the US.

Yet, I find this more interesting as a psychological first reaction from an American (no insult intended):

    Challenge monopoly yes, dominance never.

The first psychological reaction to a traumatic event is often denial.
And of course, as a general rule:
    Never say never 😉

But generally, we only need to go to F-16.net to get an estimate of the general reaction to the PAK FA of the US military aviation community. Those pages are a sad read and does not do America justice, what happened to that open minded America that could look at an opponent and see the good and the bad in them and analyze without painting everything black and white? Something that is most admirable about the British, even today and why this forum is perhaps so popular with such great analysis despite the trolls.

I guess we’ll have to see. How many F-22s were there again? And there is some leeway in a challenge..

The Russians are Coming: The T-50s Flight to the Future

    http://www.grandestrategy.com/2010/02/russian-are-coming-t-50s-flight-to.html

    Here is the introduction:

    Introduction

In late January 2010, the PAK FA made its maiden flight, ushering in an end to an era of US dominance of stealth, fifth generation fighter aircraft. Military analysts of every shade and nation spent endless times speculating and awaited the first flight with endless sleepless nights and over bitter arguments about its final configuration, for the PAK FA was kept so secretive that none other than a very choice few knew what it would look like.

Combat aircraft are the spear tip of any military power, and play a pivotal role in air warfare. And in today’s day and age, any nation that has the decisive advantage in the air war, dominates the ground war, and by extension, the political arena. The PAK FA, also known as the T-50 and possibly to be known in its final version as the Su-50, is an aircraft that not only Russia, but the world needed. For the unipolar world that ushered in an American Empire has increasingly become an unfair and unjust world where American arrogance and exploitation is increasingly creating fiction, not only with the Muslim world but with such powers that have had the most to lose and least to gain, such as China, Russia and Brazil.

Even some of the US’s allies in Europe, staunch in their support are increasingly feeling like surrogates rather than allies, slaves rather than friends. An example within the military aviation industry is the F-35, a promised cooperative project by the US with its allies, has turned into a chain of dependence, where vital software codes and maintenance legacies will now remain in the purview of the US, with their Allies permanently dependent on the US. It is no wonder that many Western Europeans of various shades have cheered at the PAK FA, even though it is Russian. Freedom perhaps cannot exist in a monopoly. And this is why PAK FA is so important to the world.

The PAK FA is an answer to the US F-22, a fifth generation fighter that till now had no equal. A comparative analysis will follow later in this paper, but for now it suffices to say that it contends with the F-22 on stealth, aerodynamic performance and sensor sophistication and capability, as well as in cost, maintenance and practicality.

It must be understood that the T-50 is not merely a combat aircraft, it is an investment in technology and engineering that has implications for Russian industry, and has economic implications for Russia as well as for Su-50 customers who may thus be able to avoid conflict by deterrence. As a superficial example, two squadrons of this aircraft with Iran would dispel all possibilities of an Israeli strike on that nation.

Edit date, thanks dionis, must be this late night writing 🙂

You can convert it if you want… all the necessary data is there if you assume an ISA day.

But yes, your right, g-loadings are not a turn rate, but in this case it might as well be.

[To save you the bother; At sustained 4.95G, the bank angle is ~78.35 degrees, the turn radius is just over 2.7 km and the turn rate is a mere 5.4 degrees/second]

AMIGA500, I don’t know but if they are remotely true then the F-35 is not exactly a fighter but more of an A-35 🙂
