The A-5s still fly. At Peshawar, 16 and 26 squadrons still operate the Fantan.

You’re right. I thought he meant the F-6

General Dynamics to have participated in the project would have been a conflict of interest. After all they were also trying to sell F-16s to Taiwan. I was thinking more of Northrop or Grumman. Westinghouse didn’t participate in the engine program, Allied Signal did. The avionics had nothing to do with Hughes—the FBW was by BAe Systems, the radar by Raytheon and the INS by Northrop Grumman.

Now thats quite impressive, sounds like you know your ****.

I can’t believe you guys are still arguing. and PhantomII you can add the F-16 the Pakistanis sold to the Chinese in your equation as well. Don’t know why you are ignoring that.

things in the air don’t turn, speed, brake, detect on a dime.

Nobody was talking about a dime.

Oh, can I also add that I met a Pakistani electronics engineer who worked on significant portions of the F/A-18 cockpit?

    My two pence on this…

Working on delta wings for the first time requires a great deal of research and correspondingly money and the same data can be bought in the int’l market for considerably less I’d guess. Consider that Sweden, France, Germany, Britain, Israel and South Africa all have this experties. I might add that the Israeli expertise was gained from the French (they stole the blue prints) and Israel later sold this same to South Africa (who had no options as they were embargoed during apartheid). Now China could gain this knowledge from all these countries and my guess is it was most likely Israel / south africa.

Secondly, we come to the body of the aircraft – does the fuselage come from the Lavi? Or does it come from the F-16 provided by pakistan to china? now, I suggest you ask an engineer to confirm, but I believe it is a lot easy to copy basic fuselage design from an actual airframe.

Next, the FBW configuration is another technological difficulty and here again israeli experties could have been used although it is quite well known that the Pakistanis have learnt to reconfigure their falcons FWBs… Nevertheless, my verdict is it came from the israelis.

The entire front portion starting from just behind the canards look significantly different from the Lavi and I’d guess it either is completely indigenous or that it has french input.

Guys, lets all remember that at this time and age, aircraft engineers / nuclear scientists / rocket scientists / you name it are all for sale to the highest bidder. I am sorry but you can’t make this a black and white picture. My guess is you have some of the best Russian engineers working on the J-10 and you have input from Israeli, South African and French engineers as well. Its how things work today.

I agree with that. But latest AFM was also about getting the A4 back into IDEAF. Does sound strange if we knew what is parked at AMARC.

    got anymore details on that?

I don’t see why the Tejas won’t show up, it seems to be well on its way. Perhaps a little later, but the later it is i’m sure the better it’ll be 🙂 Such things take time, India lost the advantage of probly being the first developing country to build its own plane (marut) and there were delays because of the lost experience (among other reasons), however, i’m sure the LCA will be 1st class. After all the lca is no normal 4th gen plane, it has many features that are v.unique and advanced. Such a plane can take time, although admittedly it has been unnecessarily delayed. But then again, Indians are known to be patient.

And if it does by chance get way delayed, they will probly keep getting mirages 🙂

    Regards,
    USS.

Then I guess we won’t see a 1 for 1 replacement as the mirages are way too expensive for that. So does this mean that there is then a possibility that the indian air force will be decreasing in size? What do the indians in this forum think?

    Regards
