RE: Pic Of The Day-20/12/2001
F – 16? Is that some sort of anti-corrosion treatment?

Hey Neilly,
Your Mossie is superb by the way! How long has it taken you to get this far? How do you go about getting all the bits you need – prop’s, engines, canopy etc, or is the whole thing built from scratch?
Do you know of a good supplier of building plans for the big stuff such as Lanc’ Hally, Stirling & B17.

Chortle! 🙂

RE: Glenn Miller Mystery
Hi Lancman,
Pity about that, still never mind, it made for an interesting TV programme & showed a number of pretty aeroplanes in equally pretty settings…. Wonder if the interior shots were out takes from the BBC’s “Night Flight” thingy, due out some time during this milennium.
Wonder which lucky soul got the fuselage mock up after filming ended.

RE: Lancaster NX 611
Winter 2002!! Which end of the year were they on about? Jan & Feb or Nov & Dec? All very vague for a multi-million pound professional organisation 🙁
I heard on the grapevine there is ANOTHER similar programme in the plannig, anyone else heard same rumour?

What squadron and what time period was he operational?

RE: Large scale drawings
Hi Neilly,
Many thanks for those words of wisdom.
Yes, I am still interested in tracking down some large scale drawings. I do not have the skill to fly one of these baby’s, I just want to go about building one with the capacity to fly if required at a later date, so operational engines are not so very important right now.
I saw a very pretty Lancaster at Newark recently, turrets rotated, bomb doors opened, gear retracted & I think the engines also operated but the thing was static when I went. All in all, it was a superb model, and as I’m nowhere near flush enough to afford the real thing, then a big build will come a very satisfying second place.
Interested to learn of the 20kg rule, is there a restriction on overall wingspan allowed on R/C?
Many thanks

RE: Glenn Miller Mystery
Nice photo’s!
I have a soft spot for the Cat’s. (If anyone is interested, I know where a number of these & Sunderlands were disposed of at the war’s end.)
I rather liked the footage taken in the hangar, but was a bit surprised to see when the credit’s rolled that a dance coach had been hired… Does that mean to say that the dancers were only actors? If so, then the makers were a bit dim, as there must be dozens of living history groups happy to bop along in a hangar, in period dress, free of charge!

So did your grandad ever hear the rumours about the fate of the little kite in the bomb dump area?

Well said that man!
Big raspberry to Lancman too!
(Don’t see him posting any Hally photo’s)#

RE: Lancaster for Lancman
Hi Neilly,
I wasn’t REALLY grumbling about the Lanc’ 🙂 It’s just the old Spitfire v Hurricane thing, bit of light friendly banter. I do actually like the Lanc’.
Would be nice to see the large scale model you mention though.

Well spotted that man! Personally, I have not paid too much attention until you mentioned it.
Looked again & it seems you just might be right! 🙂
Still, it’s a nice picture & one with the Herc’s instead of the Merlin’s!

Grumble grumble… Yea, ok, so it IS a nice picture! 🙂

RE: W1048
I guess it depends on exactly which picture you are looking at, if you trawled right through all the pictures in the link I gave earlier, you will see W1048 in a variety of poses, including ‘with’ engines, and ‘without’ engines.
I think that the museum at Hendon chose to display the aircraft in a sort fo “during recovery” setting, rather than “as found”, but you have to also consider that through the years of decay in the water and subsequent lack of proper anti corrosion treatment, the museum have to be careful not to put too much strain on the fuselage, and in this case, the engine bearers.
I suppose someone will come along & say that I am wrong, but this answer is my best assessment of the situation, it is not necessarily the correct answer.
