    Let’s agree to disagree.
I feel exactly the same as you when I see Hendon’s Hally, but personally speaking, I would rather see her restored.
W1048 looks ‘almost’ as she did when recovered, but if you want to see clearly how she looked on recovery, follow this rather good link:-

    Just my own opinion.

I agree, there probably ARE donor parts from various RAF types keeping BBMF in the air. I got up close & personal with Spit’ BM597 a number of years ago whilst she was guarding Church Fenton’s gate & saw a number of parts that had been ‘salvaged’ to keep BBMF going, sadly, at that time, I don’t think it was policy to replace ‘New for Old’ and the nav & formation lights were simply roughly shaped bits of wood. (I think that policy was changed shortly afterwards.)

As for Hendon’s Hally. She is sitting in a sorry looking state at present & there are many folk who all feel the same, that is, she deserves to be treated better than she is at present and it is about time she was restored to her former glory (at the very least, externally). Would a petittion help?

    Merry Christmas to everyone

Yes they do indeed look very pretty, sound nice too 🙂

Here’s a little something that not a lot of folk know, and even Lancman might admire… Halifax W1048 at Hendon has provided a number of parts from her engines to keep PA474 in the air!! Yes folks, crash recovered parts too!! Horror of horrors! The reason for this was that the Hally’s engine’s were so new at the time of her demise, and upon restoration, the parts were STILL brand new looking, it was decided to put them to a good cause!
I like the thought of that.
(Especially more so as they are Halifax bits 🙂 he he he!!)

14 MU was at Carlisle & I know it dealt with clothing & may have dealt with other things as well.
    Hope this helps?

    RE: Reputation of the Lancaster

    I couldn’t agree more.
I never did get to say this before, so I will say it now…
I have met a number of aircrew who flew in BOTH types (Halifax & Lancaster) and they ALL speak highly of both types, now who am I to argue with veterans? Admittedly, both types had their good points as well as their bad points, but on the whole, they were pretty equally matched.
I would dearly love to be in the position of having lots of money to spend, for I would build from scratch, a Lancaster, Stirling and Halifax, the three main British heavies of Wartime Bomber Command.
If I have said anything bad about the Lancaster, it is purely in good humoured banter, nothing else.
    Enjoy Christmas folks.

    RE: Reputation of the Lancaster

I don’t see any comments here from Lancman, perhaps he knows this to be a factual depiction, doctored or not.
    🙂
Besides, I’m only having a freindly poke at all the shining Glory the Lancaster gets.
    🙂
I actually DO like other aircraft besides the Halifax and am prepared to say to on forum. I have a great affection for the Lancaster & Stirling as well as the Halifax. Ain’t seen Lancman put forward a similar statement yet.
    🙁
I can’t see anything wrong with some of us (those who are able)posting fake or doctored pictures if they have some humour attached.

    Keep on smiling 🙂

Tut tut, I wouldn’t DREAM of doctoring a photograph old boy.

I have a super photo of a Lancaster doing some ULTRA low flying on my hard drive, want to see it?

    Lancman,
I am beginning to think that you really ONLY like the Lancaster & hate everything else, is this true?

    RE: One for Lancman

I don’t really think that in THIS particular case, the organisers would have WANTED the Hally to fly much lower!
Could be a tad embarrassing explaining why half the onlookers no longer have anything above the shoulders!
Do you REALLY want me to post a LOWER flying photo?
