Great news, it’ll be good to see a Buccaneer back at Kemble. Will she be kept under cover or outside?
Andy
Unfortunately she will be outside Andy, but who knows what could happen in the future.
The fortunate thing is, we will have access to Electrics, Water and a darn fine bar/restaurant.
No bother! As privately run ‘fan’ sites go, it’s amazing. The guy who runs it is a top bloke, very friendly and knowledgeable.
Hear, hear, darn fine fellow is Andy.
Only under cranes 🙁
Nev, you must have great faith in Mr Martin’s lifting frame, although saying that, we have helped move 4 Bucc’s in the past and have always found myself connected to the tailskid by a strop, great fun in high winds 😮 😮
oh those engines are just begging to be run again
I might have a cunning plan that I will be putting to the UAS once they have found their feet at their new home.
Who actually owned the airframe?
That should read, “who actually OWN’S the airframe”, as she has not been sold, she has just had to move from her old location along with the rest of the collection. The collection is owned by the Ulster Aviation Society.
Appears to be access panel 10, part no YB3 11 64 88 3A
This panel is located on the starboard side dorsal spine directly behind the cockpit canopy (when in the closed position), it should have a couple of louvres towards the rear of it.
I have done a bit of searching through our records and found that XV160 was painted in Artic White in 1977 for low level exercises over Labrador prior to taking part in Red Flag at Nellis AFB, I will continue to search to see what else can be found.
buccsociety, The reason I ask is I’ve got an access panel from a Bucc which is grey with the green over painted with the temporary arctic white.
What is painted number on the inside of the panel? I will continue my search of photographic evidence of the Artic White scheme
Over 100 posts in this thread, who would have believed it.
Everything is serviceable, although the engines have not turned in a while. She receives regular attention from her dedicated crew and is looked after they way she should be.
Regarding the condition of the paintwork on XV361, the aircraft is as per her arrival at Langford Lodge in 1994! The condition is down to being housed undercover, together with a bit of TLC.
Regards to All!!!
Thanks for clearing that up WF, I must admit that neither Neville or Leonard have mentioned anything about a repainting program.
I agree that it does look as though the UAS have started a repaint, I will speak to them over the weekend so should be able to get a bit more info about it.
You should see a couple of images of Staverton based XX889 that were taken earlier this month.
Great photos Dave, shame it was Cr*p weather, you must still be white where your shorts were?? 😀 😀 😀
Still worries me that they continue to fly the Buccs in ZA with the large wing tip fairings, these were the cause of so many fatigue cracks in Rib-80.
Did any Buccaneers ever fly in Arctic camouflage?
Yes, two I believe but finding photos of them is proving extremely difficult, I have put out several requests but all to no avail at the moment.
Looks like she is in good shape with a recent paint job? keep us posted of her final destination………
Peter, she still wears the paint that she flew in with in 1994, TLC is all that was required.
The throttle jammed open after landing causing the fracas you see in the pictures
NickB
Yes!!, for once I got it right 😀 😀 😀
