Its funny how an airliner which was so familar, you could practically see a BAC 1-11 anywhere in the UK, has gone. I recall seeing at Liverpool regular Ryanair 1-11s going to and from Dublin. That was the time that they only had one route out of LPL ! I read a book a little while back about the development and eventual drop of the proposed BAC 3-11. It was to be a wide bodied twin rear mounted engined T.Tail to rival the A300. The aircraft looking like it had a lot of prospects, in the politics killed it off.
Thanks for the info
Carl
Liverpool to New York is potentailly a good route to offer. Liverpool attracts many U.S tourist, and the city is well known over there. I hope Globespan can sort themselves out, as they are getting alot of bad press in Liverpool at the moment, and that wont help the route.
Jet2 have been doing this for a long time now, must be at least two years!
This is curious, I flew on Jet2 very recently Berlin-Manchester, had no idea of the restriction, bought my own tasty sandwich and a bottle of low-cost water prior to the flight, no one said a thing, so I wonder how strictly they en-force this.
I dont know if Easyjet have same policy, but I flew outward with them Liverpool-Berlin, again, brought my own food, and it was just as well I did, they had no food left onboard, it was lunch time, and i wanted a bit more than Pringles !!
I flew with Jet2 on Friday Berlin-Manchester. The show in the magazine onboard they still offer MAN-LGW, however I was under the impression they dropped this route. I know this doesnt answer your question about LGW-NCL bus does indicate they chop and change a bit
I flew with Thomsonfly from gatwick to Cancun on 24 dec, in fact we departed a day late, the plane was a 767 and to be honest you would get more comfort from your average bus. Food awful with service to match.
I like it, looks pretty smart.
Hi
This is only an observation, but while passing throught Manchester Terminal 3, a week back, there seemed tobe plenty of people checking-in for Barbados with BMI.

Think that be good for Cityhopper to do that route with a F50.
James
That would be an interesting proposal, Id have thought it should prove popular, They fly AMS-HUY, which I would have thought was a similar type of route, not a large city, but does well none the less.
I have a soft spot for Lydd, coming from Kent when I was a lad, its was the only airport which had any commercial operations in the county. What would be useful would be a link to Amstedam so less people need to drive up to Gatwick, Stansted or Heathrow. Transfer in Amsterdam instead, especially for long haul, when you need two days check-in these days !!! I guess a MSE-AMS would also be good, and maybe a better choice of departure point, with a greater population base nearby.
There is still a railway line to the power station which is used for the transport of nuclear flasks but there are no passenger facilities. There is the rather lovely narrow gauge railway though…
Hi
Yes I know of the narrow gauge steam railway, that would be a pretty unique rail-air link 🙂
Thanks
Carl
Very interesting, this link has beeen talked about for years, Air Wales I beleive were planning to launch it. There have been some attempts to link Liverpool with Cardiff, but none very successful. Manx did it and later Air Wales, although has tobe said their performance was pretty poor. The route went onward to Aberdeen, where there is strong demand, but half the time they cancelled the flights. Ryanair are now doing LPL-ABZ.
Anyway good news to get a north-south Wales link at last.
Hi
Sorry wasnt there, but thought id mention I used Lydd many years ago flying with Janus Airways on a Herald and a Viscount to Oostende and Beavais.
I think the RSPB is not keen on the expansion plans due to the reserve nearby at Dungerness, I do have sympathy with them as it is a very important reserve. Is there still a railway line running nearby I think it was used for freight to the power station, but this would be useful for passengers getting to Lydd and not having to use a car ?
I havent flown with them, but I do have friends from London who have, and say Zoom were good.
BA wasnt interested in the Southwest routes a few years back, Air Southwest was born to take over, now BA want to come back !
