I have been to, and displayed at every CockpitFest (15 I believe). It is always fun and is about more than just displaying. It costs quite a lot to display by the time you add in fuel costs and rental – but that is offset by the gains – good company and fun.
The aeroboot brings an added bonus and we do have a great social time too.
At the start, cockpit panels, rigs and other displays were not that popular and the cockpits took the centre stage. To my delight, this area rightly now has its own awards and fans. These displays are wide and varied and are a big part of the Fest. There are lots of areas that cover cockpit related items that we could touch on. We could have people displaying trench art, propellors, ephemera, sick bags etc.
The hangar displays do have a reduced footfall compared to the outside events. We did discuss this and felt that had the hangar door been partially open, that might have helped.
There were more Army related exhibits – but that added a good dimension.
I was sad not to see some faces there, like Tony Collins – but don’t write the event off – it is good fun.
