Which Sq. code is ‘VL’ ?
SX336 is painted to represent a 766 Squadron machine, as Mike said, Yeovilton based.
Looking a lot less orangy but with naked knees… 😮
You’re the furry one at the front, right?
MkVIIIc MT719 (who owned this at that time? Wasn’t it some racing company?)
Reynard Racing.
What about the ‘Over Here’ TV series?
c) 17 Squadron would be a contender.
Daz, what sort of paintscheme would you like to see on that spit xviii?
Its already painted
Looks like a replica Spitfire.
What I meant was that in this day and age many spits are running a XX series
These would be in a minority these days. I believe the Grace Spitfire now runs a Merlin 500 and the latest UK Mk IX restorations have gone for the original Merlin 66.
Just to update this sticky thread:
There’s an announcement here saying they’ve made extra spaces available so you can now just turn up even if you haven’t booked a place.
Have you some informations about the Spitfire with French markings ? 🙂
Its a Mk 16 – serial TE184. A quick Google will give you the history. Its currently ‘resting’ out of permit.
As this forum is owned and operated by the publishing company who create Flpast – whats the difference? They are perfectly entitled to use it as a news source.
The thing I don’t get, and hence my question…is why did the mounting wires for the harness run all the way to the rear of the fuselage.Would it not be enough to run them to the closest bulkhead or strong point?
They don’t. They are fixed just aft of the cockpit near the radio mast. The rear of the fuselage would be another six feet or so further back.
there are far too many Mk IX’s around at the moment
Really – can you back that with statistics? I would suggest that it may have once been the case but the airworthy Spitfire population is now rather more diverse.
In the UK the single seat Mk IX is no more numerous than the Mk V in terms of airworthy aircraft. In fact if you count the V’s:EP120, BM597, AB910, AR501 (although under maintenance this year) you will find there are fewer single seat IX’s, including this latest restoration.
As its early in the year the number of potential aircraft to attend will be limited by servicing/annuals etc. I can think of at least one Spitfire that would be there if it were not stuck in its hangar.
Mr Church died on the evening of 1st July 1989.
I suspect that is Alan Shepherd in the cockpit of 462, I recall it was him that took the Spit to Middle Wallop in around 92 or 93.
