The crash of RH831 at Colerne on March 08th 1956 was witnessed by my father . He was waiting to take off in Balliol 525 and saw it crash . He never mentioned the accident much as it affected him. He had to fly Sqdn (Reverend)Ldr Must on March 09th from North Luffenham to Colerne in Balliol 525 as a result of the accident.
He was rated as Above average on the Balliol and Average on the Brigand . He never felt at home flying them and the Buckmaster was always u/s.

    Merkle,
On leave next week I will go thru my fathers log book and give you serials of Brigands and Balliols at 238 OCU Colerne that he flew plus any interesting flights he undertook. I do not have any photos from that era as I was only 3 at the time. Father died in 1993.

    Peter,
You were at Leeming before my father, did you fly in the Meteor NF.11’s ? He flew the Valetta C.1 and the T.4 with the long radar nose,Meteor NF.14 and Canberra T.11’s. He was an active member of the RAFGSA Clevelands gliding club and tugged gliders with the station flight DH Chipmunks from 1957 to 1961.

    Peter,

Thanks for the diagram really helpful. We used to live at 138 Gatenby Lane on the camp but the houses were rebuilt for the Tornado force in the 80’s.

There was a Book Two of the “Lincolnshire Air War”by Sid Finn and it had a more comprehensive updated crash list but still with ommissions and errors but it provided a good base to research further.
Most of the German aircrew were buried at Cannock,Staffordshire. Looking for Ju88 details. After The Battle “Blitz on Britain ” books possibly Vol 2 could yield more info.

My mum is 87 and living in a care home for the last 3 years . She served as a WAAF 1940-1952. We had to sell her home in Grantham because of mobility problems to fund the care home fees through an annuity. The rest of the fees come from her state pension and attendance allowance and we are only just breaking even. We have had no further help from the Government whatsoever and even have to fund incontinence pads as well, as the local council cannot fund them.
There is so much inequality in this country that it has gone too far to find a reasonable level . We are not talking race here but charity should begin at home to those who have contributed something to (Great)Britain.
