What would benefit Duxford, finances permitting would be an exhibition of Duxfords flying days in the Cold War era with a Meteor F.8,Gloster Javelin and Hawker Hunter on display together. How do other forumites feel ?
Belated thank you’s for the excellent replies . It was quite common on a heavily loaded bomber Mosquito at take off . Did the Lancaster suffer from this as well ?
Thanks so much for a splendid record. Is it possible to put veterans names to those in the main photograph ? They must have some stories to tell.
Hello WB981,
Yes the banding was between the fuselage roundel and serial number, with the College crest on a white roundel midway centre on the banding. Codes were underwing also . They did not have blue bands on the wings. Apoint to bear in mind the College gliders had the AIR CADETS logo on the front fuselage sprayed out on the Sedberghs and Cadet MK.2’s.
When I was 14 the RAF College Cranwell Glider Flight had 2 Cadet MK.11’s VM648 & XE760 in 1966-7. Both were silver overall with the Oxford/Cambridge fuselage bands . No dayglo on the airframes. Both in excellent condition but little flown. They both went to Bicester circa Feb.1970. VM648 I thought is in the East Fortune Museum. XE760 became BGA ” CRK”. No photos as I could not afford a camera in those days.

Thanks to everybody for helping with research ,this is a mystery. Perhaps the RAF Fulbeck ORB might turn up some information.

Could some kind person have a look through Kenneth Wests Putnam of RAF Captured German Aircraft book and see if any mention of this in there ? With thanks.

No, it was an entry on the BCAR website Crash Log page for December 1944.
I knew that German aircraft were stored at Fulbeck in the late fifties, but never heard of this one before .

The date is July 29th 1984. Old Warden airfield is just under the Lancaster in the picture.
