    Busy with my village fete today but nice to see the Eurofighter formation pass to the east over Thurleigh heading north. A few minutes later saw the Tornado formation heading back to Leuchars, well done RAF,just wish the BBC would give more coverage to this ,i.e a behind scenes look at all the hard work build up .

    Author will be signing copies at Waterstones in Silver St, Bedford from 11:00 to 13:00 hrs this Sat 14/06. Ex 582 Sq veterans will be present as they are holding a reunion in Bedford. Most likely church service Lt Staughton on the Sunday am.
    I bought a copy in Waterstones today and hope to be there.

    Book is very good.

    Hope this is the info Bex requires : Canberra PR.7 WH773 was the first production PR.7. First flight 16.8.53 To 540,82,31,80,58 and 13 Squadrons.Struck off charge Wyton 9.6.81. To 2331 ATC unit as 8696M 9.81.
    Dismantled at Wyton 2.90 to Vallance Byways,Charlwood 90.

    It was on the Wyton gate as of 1981. It did an approach to Yeovilton 1.7.80

    Supermarine Scimitar,XD239, 800 Sqdn coded 103/R 13.5.63 L/C DF Mills diverted from Ark Royal to Khormaskar with radio and Hydraulic 1 intermittent failure. After 4 failed deck passes ,failed on first attempt at runway due to poor visibility,lost height in turn ,ejected, aircraft ditched in 6 ft of water. Wreckage shipped to Uk, Fleetlands. Sold as scrap 1967 to Birmingham Unimetals Ltd,

    XW315, for the record served with RAFC Cranwell,3 FTS,CFS coded “83”,3 FTS,CFS. It suffered a fire in the air 5.7.84 and was not repaired . SOC 8.5.86.

    There was a chapter on it’s flying abilities in a book on flying the Shuttleworth’s aircraft. John Lewis would be the best experienced pilot to ask. Apparently if he leaned his arms on the cockpit sills, it had a marked effect on performance !

    They were sent there after the Varsity was retired from inventory in 1974 so yes they would have been disposed by 1984. WL670/P ,5 FTS, SOC 19.9.74 sent to Valley for fire practice. WJ943/R, 6FTS, Sent to Valley 4.76.
