I hope they do a decent Pad Thai and stock a LOT of Chang.

    Horrendous!

P.S.: Bangkok is just an ugly spread of concrete.

    The city or the airport?

    Regardless…you’re very much mistaken imo!

    quite impressive i think :p

I had to spend about 10 hours in Bangkok…but I was with a mate. It wasn’t too bad. It’s a nice airport – very modern, lots of shops etc. Whether I could fancy 19 hours or not is a different matter.

I wouldn’t worry too much about the supposed troubles over there. I have friends there and their response typically is “what trouble?”

The earlier suggestion about Khaosan Road is what I was going to say. It’s a nice place. Just make sure you eave plenty of time to get back to the airport, it’s quite a trek.

Lots to see around there, just have your wits about you as said. With regards to the drugs thing…just do what I did and check your bag before you check it in. But, lots of those stories will be media hyped..some people in the past have even (supposedly) accepted packages..which then turned out to be drugs. Don’t accept anything from anybody!

Are direct flights from HKG to SYD really expensive?

Interesting to hear other points of view on this, including that of check-in staff.

I was just checking my Lufthansa ticket – I note the following at the bottom:

“You will receive the ticket and the boarding pass at the Quick Check-in machine with any card uniquely identifying yourself with your name on the
magnetic stripe. Alternatively the passenger will receive the documents upon presentation of a valid identification card at the Check-In counter.
In case you booked a special fare please note that it can be subject to restrictions. Should you have further questions please call your Lufthansa
    contact.”

So it looks like it’s OK for them, but that’s not what I read when I saw the booking confirmation. I just checked a BA e-ticket, it does state that you must present you card on both an upcoming ticket, but also on my past e-tickets and I have not been asked before…so perhaps this policy is just one of those that is there in writing to cover the airlines back, but not necessarily enforced? How can it be verified when you check in online?

Interesting fact about fradulent cards to buy airline tickets; I would never have thought that would be the case. Ultimately though, if there is a tickbox to say that the cardholder is not travelling…isn’t that an easy workaround for the fraudster?

I bet loads of people suffer from this, and the airlines will be laughing all the way to the bank when genuine people make a genuine oversight and realise too late – fraud or not they get their money twice right?

Chris i assume your flying from NCL?

The self service Kiosks sometimes ask for credit card verification but the staff on the check in desk shouldn’t need it!

For the BA flight I am yeah. For Lufthansa it’s from Heathrow.

I don’t quite get it though. I flew BA just a few months ago and didn’t need to show anything then.

Is it due to the fact that i’ve booked far in advance, or perhaps that I’ve used a debit card on this occasion where ususally it’s a credit card?

I don’t get the point of needing to verify the card. Is it supposed to prevent someone booking flights on a stolen card (would anybody be that stupid?)

Let’s just hope I don’t lose it on some drunken night out :p

Good thread! Nice pics, great scenery.

Reminds me, I need to arrange such a trip on KLM or AirFrance soon…as it happens I want to go to Zurich too!

How much was your ticket compared to regular economy? Were meals served in economy?

This I completely 100% disagree with. Why the hell should those of us who drink responsibly when flying and enjoy doing so have to suffer as a result of the odd idiot?

    Paul

Exactly. I enjoy a drink when flying, and I enjoy a few when going on holiday or long haul. Why should I have this taken away becuase of such a minority??

Flying Stateside or to Asia would be very dull without my usual whiskey and coke!

I’ve been on two flights when his has happened, either to or from Ibiza and Zante

On both occasions, the pilot also gave a pretty grim overview of why it’s banned. One one occasion the captain said that the crew had informed him that they didn’t know who did it, but if he found out he would see to it that they were banned from the airline so they wouldnt be flying home with them, and prosecuted

I don’t get how people can be so senseless.

    Thanks for that.

I’ve had a look at the LinkUK site – looks good…can you explain a bit more about how it works? Do i just download addons for FSX?

I’ve bought a copy of FSX from ebay (not the deluxe edition though) – how much do you get ‘out of the box’ and what will require addons?

I’m also looking to start playing a bit with FSX

I’ve got 4GB RAM, Intel Q6600 quad core (@3ghz) and an 8800GT (with factory overclock)

What sort of settings can I expect?

Also – can anybody reccomend a decent budget joystick?

Bad news. I see it’s an ex-Flybe aircraft, too.

Indonesia’s reputation for air safety is really going down the pan. I remember a big fuss being kicked up when the Adam Air 737 went down a few years ago.

Indeed! Incidentally that was the most recent episode of ACI.

Are they still banned from the EU?

To be fair he’s written a well structured letter and I would have similar concerns about hazards around my house and traffic problems if I was him. This makes a change from the usual plane stupid drivel.

Yes ALL 767 nose gear doors droop when on the ground. They are held firmly shut when the gear is up. Whe the gear is down in the air, the air flow holds them shut. Once on the ground they droop a bit. Nothing to worry about.

    Rgds Cking

Thanks for that! Wasn’t too worried, I logically assumed that at 500mph chances are the air flow would ensure it was closed anyway :p
