Cheers Glenn, I’ve emailed CCB re any fee/donation involved for bringing items to sign.
Let’s hope the weather is more like yesterday than today.
It certainly looks like the Forum will be having ‘A grand day out’
Does anyone know which former RAF pilots & aircrew (don’t like that term ‘vets’) will/may be attending, and what the situation is re bringing prints along to be signed?
Geoff.
Given that the cause was apparently fuel flow problems, the name of the pilot, Flight Lieutenant J F Fewell seems appropriate!
If Steve’s going via Asia, I think the planning may be a bit suspect 😉
From ‘Lost to service’ by Colin Cummings,
’25-May-1986 XH304 Vampire T11, CFS, RAF Mildenhall.
Mid air collision with Meteor T7 WA669 whilst flying in formation at the annual air show. The Meteor and Vampire were attempting a line astern barrel roll to the left, but because it could not match the Meteor’s rate of roll, the Vampire bacame displaced. The Vampire moved forward and collided with the Meteor. The pilot, Squadron Leader David Marchant and a member of the ground maintainance crew who was flying as a passenger; Sgt A Ball, were able to eject.’
The crew of the Meteor were Flight Lieutenant Andrew James Potter, age 38, pilot, and Corporal Kevin Turner, age 24, Ground support tradesman.

It is indeed the former Royal Herbert Hospital, now converted to flats.
The conection with aviation is that during the war, there were two wards there for the more seriously injured Luftwaffe POWs. My user-namesake died there in 1940.
Geoff.
They also ask for a reason when you want to edit a post, but I’ve found that you can still edit a post without giving a reason.
Geoff.
222 Sqn. went to Digby on the 10th May 1940.
No, it’s the one next to the Brook, on the corner.
I thought Mr Lom would give it to you! Try a sherbert dab, it might inspire you.
You obviously know the area?
Geoff.
If 310 Sqn didn’t fly an operational sortie on the 10th, can it be a training sortie, such as formation flying etc? If it needs to be a sortie that was really flown, you’ll need someone who knows more about the squadron, or can look at the ORB for the 10th.
Try posting your question on this Czech airmen in the RAF website. Scroll down & click ‘forum’ on the left of the screen. Someone there will surely be able to help. http://cz-raf.hyperlink.cz/index.html
Geoff.
Ewan is right on the location, but it isn’t the Queen Elizabeth. The building in the photo is still there.
Re the traffic, the photos were taken mid-morning, and the road was surprisingly quiet, so no trickery with any editing.
Mr Lom would know the name 😉
Geoff.
It was I who took the photos, I just wondered if anyone would know it. 🙂
No 310 Sqn. are the only Hurricane squadron to fall into your timeframe, and 10th July was the date they were formed. I may be wrong but I don’t think any Duxford based squadrons saw action on the 10th. It would need some research, or someone with better books, to say if 310 squadron flew a formation, even a non-operational sortie on the 10th, unless you don’t mind ‘inventing’ a sortie & just need a squadron that could have flown it. Does it need to be Hurricanes or a real sortie?
Geoff.
I agree, we should have a go at designing our own ‘FlyPast Forum Meet’ logo. Either one which can be worn at any ‘meet’, or a standard design that can be modified for specific events, such as MoM, or F.Leg-ends.
Rather than have people placing orders with the ‘winning’ designer, wouldn’t it be more convenient to allow people to download it, and get it printed at a shop local to them? They can then chose what they have the logo printed on, T-shirt, sweatshirt, cap, or as a badge etc.

‘British civil aircraft registers since 1919’ by Dave Peel (Midland Counties) has G-AAAA as to ‘X5038 11.39’. The Air-Britian X1000 to Z9999 volume has ‘X5038 ex G-AAAA, used as decoy.’
