Having done the MI series, Jack Reacher duo and the Bourne films, I watched a couple of films recently:

The Foreigner (2017). Decided to give this a watch as looking for something a bit different to watch and found myself on Amazon for a change and this was listed.
Starring:  Katie Leung, Jackie Chan, Rufus Jones, Pierce Brosnan

    Plot: (from IMDB.com)

“A humble businessman with a buried past seeks justice when his daughter is killed in an act of terrorism. A cat-and-mouse conflict ensues with a government official, whose past may hold clues to the killers’ identities.”

Not really knowing quite what to expect, I found the film a good watch with a nice flow. Having lived through the troubles and the immediate aftermath it was nice to see how the peace was still fragile and the posturing. Also to see Jackie Chan’s character seeking the revenge that no doubt many a parent from those times wanted was good too. It was good too to see Pierce Brosnan playing a different role than normal.
Includes, obviously, scenes of violence and strong language.

I liked it and would watch again but not as soon as I felt I wanted to watch “JoJo Rabbit” again.

    Thanks again chaps.
Maybe able to get it covered on work’s insurance in that case for the PLI.

Think I will struggle to put a value on it as I have no idea what it would be worth. In some way scarce but then saving from being burnt implies worthless…

As I heard said once “Insurance the […] man’s burden”

    Thanks chaps.

Luckily I will be able to store it at work (at no cost) so that is one thing I suppose.
I will look into the car insurance side and public liability (I think that may be the tougher one).

The value of the cockpit is going to be the stumbling block really. At the moment it looks like the only outlay will be a few instruments, cushions/seat pads, the trailer and some wood and perspex to repair the damaged bits. (Apart from paint and a couple of other sundry type things.)

This is a whole new thing to me, this cockpit “lark” and just hope I can do it justice.

    Thanks again

    Greetings.

Apart from working my way through the Mission Impossible films these last few days between work, the last film I watched was JoJo Rabbit (2019) just the other week.
Starring:  Roman Griffin Davis, Thomasin McKenzie, Scarlett Johansson, Taika Waititi

I thought I would give it a go after seeing the trailer and my daughter giving up on it at most half way through.
    The plot is (from IMDB.com):
“A World War II satire that follows a lonely German boy named Jojo whose world view is turned upside down when he discovers his single mother is hiding a young Jewish girl in their attic. Aided only by his idiotic imaginary friend, Adolf Hitler, Jojo must confront his blind nationalism.”

Not sure what I expected before I started watching it but I really enjoyed it. It was quirky, funny, poignant, and more. It has been ages since I last watched a film and wanted to watch it again so quickly, but this was one of those rare ones for me, plus the soundtrack is good too.
Give it a go if you haven’t, but watch with an open mind and no preconceptions as I did, and hopefully you will find a good film.

I still pop in from time to time and also follow the remarkable Stirling project and Blue_2’s Meteor thread (on UKAR and FB).
EDIT – realised I forgot to mention BobKat’s lancaster work too – incredible dedication.

I too miss the place, although I didn’t contribute loads, I was an avid reader, but as many have said, where else could you/can you, find such a place as this?

Have got used to, as much as possible, the “new” style of Forum, but still finding it grating on the eyes, a bit clunky, missing useful tools, and what is it with all the s*dding adverts between every post, let alone the repetition of some multiple times on each page?

Happy new year folks even if it is the end of January!

I am rarely on here now as well.
It became unusable with the infamous “reboot” and it is a mere shadow of it’s former self and I find that desperately sad. I pop back like avion ancien due to that sense of loyalty – 16 years worth – plus failure to find a forum as good as this used to be.
I agree that there will be a day when I come to browse again and it will have just vanished.

A quick squizz on http://www.ukserials.com/prodlists.php?type=968, gives:

    “WA947  ZE368  Westland Sea King HAR3  f/f 22/05/1985, d/d 03/06/1985, playground at Holmside Park, Edmondsley, Durham

    WA948  ZE369  Westland Sea King HAR3  f/f 29/07/1985, d/d 16/08/1985, to Gosport Store, to Charlwood”

    Hope that helps

One of those was regularly held at RAF Abingdon and whilst elsewhere airshow numbers are in decline the tradition at this location continues with the Air and Country Fair event, the 20th being held last Sunday.

But last weekend’s occasion was the last one with a flying display. The organiser, Neil Porter, has just announced that for 2020 the aviation part of the event will be a fly-in.

So in future a less dynamic event, but still a worthwhile one for the aviation enthusiast with up to 150 participants. I enjoyed the event on Sunday with a splendid and diverse mix of new and old and wish it continued success.

The costs to stage just the one day air display are quite staggering, (£80,000 quoted in the Oxford Mail) that, plus the increasing changes and alterations to the regulations etc., are a major factor in his decision. For me it was my 18th helping out and it has been amazing watching it change and evolve, not to mention some of the hoops that had to be jumped through and spiralling costs year on year for the MoD licence, the insurance etc. etc. etc….
He’s to helping out at my 19th!

I remember them being at Sywell many moons ago. My dad and I helped once or twice but for some reason didn’t continue. I do remember looking in the Whirlwinds and the Javelin but I don’t believe dad has any photos of the Javelin. I do recall there being an Auster frame as well.
IIRC NVAS were located in an old building between the Wellington Hangars and where Sloanes was built.

She landed at Bicester safe and well.
    She was just venting fuel.
Apart from that she looked very nice
