The Vulcan and Victor were seen as duplicates, and the Beverley was the RAF Hendon gate guard rather than a RAFM exhibit. It was a shame they were lost, but I also can’t see how they could have been preserved.
There are a further two Me163’s in the UK, one at Cosford and the other at East Fortune.
While I’m here, I should add my thanks to everyone who contributes pics and info to this thread. I always enjoy viewing it but rarely comment. Thanks!
Do they still have a Spitfire there? MK.21 IIRC.
It was a Spit Mk.XIV (14), MT847. Displayed at Cosford at one time, then Manchester and has now been moved to Hendon.
Great scheme! I especially like the underwing roundals, they should be introduced fleet-wide if you ask me.
Hi Steve,
There was a Database section on the Canberra published in Aeroplane around ten years ago. I’m sure there’s an air-to-air of an Ethiopian Canberra up on test from Warton in the section on export Canberras, although my copy went in the recycling a while ago. I hope that’s a useful lead.
I was also thinking Wildcat/ Martlet. Some of the French-spec Martlet I’s had these silver props with three-colour tips.
Thanks Charlie, I don’t think anyone else has posted about him. It just goes to show how important it is for individuals to have some personal grit when up against the establishment.
RIP
There are currently two Vildebeest projects in NZ, one at the RNZAF Museum using Vincent and Vildebeest parts, and another with the Subritzky collection.
The Boston is still underway as far as I undersand, there were pictures posted on another forum a few months ago that showed it looking fairly complete.
Has everyone been drinking? If so, where’s mine?? 😀
In all seriousness, I would argue that the Overstrand and most of its inter-war stablemates aren’t well known enough. As far as I’m aware, Overstrands were never used in action, a fact which consigns many aircraft to the ‘forgotten’ pile.
I’m not looking for parts Peter, just contributing to the discussion.
Perhaps my mind is playing tricks, but I’d always thought there was an intermediate design of metal wing between the old wooden one and the later higher aspect ratio job, ie. a metal wing in the old wooden shape?
There’s good mention made of USAAF Lysanders in MMP’s Lysander book published a few years ago now, and authored by JDK. I can’t find my copy at the moment, which is driving me bonkers, but there are several photos and at least one profile drawing of USAAF examples.
Just saw this via WIX, but thought I’d put it up here for the benefit of anyone in Europe who might be interested. A complete but slightly worse for wear Percival Pembroke C.Mk.51, ex-Belgian AF and a former VIP transport. Located in New Jersey, USA.
