I recorded the later showing on the BBC HD and just watched it. I thought it was well made, and well presented and the mixture of actors and narration kept my attention all the way through and it was very moving.
I did “twitch” a bit with the airfield scenes, nothing in the background, two ground crew etc, but that is down to budget/location. No film or TV version of a book can ever capture what you read in a book, because what you read is presented into your imagination by your own brain, when you see a dramatisation you see what somebody else creates.
I read the book years ago (I left it on a BA flight to Brussels !) but I’ll pick up another copy now and go through it again.
