RIP Red 4 from the other side of St.George’s Channel (Ireland).

As a radio journo I was reporting this this afternoon and was hoping against hope he had ejected and was safe and well. Gutted to hear this.

    1) Journos who write articles don’t write headlines… that’s the sub’s job.

    2) Calling the Grauniad a s**te newspaper is like calling the Daily Heil a left-wing paper.

    3) What’s odd about the photo? Genuine inquiry.

Now seems it landed safely and the nose-wheel collapsed as it was turning off the runway.

Is that a V-1 I see behind the Wildcat? Or a derivative of?

Nice pics, must see about a visit sometime, didn’t know they have so many complete aircraft and that Sherpa looks very interesting. I’m with EGTC, never heard of that particular one before.

Lovely bit of writing, thanks for posting.

low’n’slow, is that a cudgel in the instructor’s hand in case the pupil’s a bit hesitant in heading out? 🙂

    Atleast someone looks around. 🙂

Very MySpace, isn’t it? Unnecessary and juvenile.

And as for the comments above, I agree that while the site has potential, it is excruciating to try to read, let alone enjoy.

I concur with the majority, please keep those lovely shots coming.

Especially like that panoramic of the hangar, all that lovely aviation history!

“That would be equivalent to a Sopwith Camel fighting in the Vietnam war..”

How true. And things of beauty. Love the B29 flying shots.

Thank you very much for these (you’ve unleashed a wonderful archive over the past few weeks).

    Loving the Hustler too.

Excellent programme, and great to hear first hand accounts of both taking and interpreting the photos. Lovely footage of Lancs and B17s.

And what gorgeous flying by the Spit! A lovely hour.

    Watching. Enjoying it so far.

[EDIT] I do wish they’d decide to use either Hurris or Spits and not both at the same time though.

Watched that myself and also noticed the RAF’s treachery in bombing its own people. Plus the early He111s. Wasn’t impressed.
