There were five houses along our road (including ours) that had bothered as far as I could see. All the street lighting reained on yet a few months ago most of it was off to save money!

I’m not sure if I can put a picture up, not very good with computers etc, bit of a dinosaur in this area. However we will have a candle lit and next to it will be a battered RFC badge from an unknown airman.

Just about anything by Marc Bolan (T. Rex). Here’s an example, this is called New York City.

Did you ever see a woman
Coming out of New York City
With a frog in her hand

Did you ever see a woman
Coming out of New York City
With a frog in her hand

    I did don’t you know [3x]
    And don’t it show

Many thanks for the update. Unfortunately I couldn’t go after all. From the photos I’ve seen it looked to be a good show but I have been told there were a few cancellations whish is a shame, fantastic weather for it though. My house is about 5 miles from the base and it seemed to me there was less than the normal activity we would normally see from the garden on a show day but that may be just how it appeared to be. I’m still a bit curious as to why the original tread disappeared, surely nothing offensive could have been said.

Took my missus to see her at Cardiff arena a couple of years ago. It is a fairly big venue and the place was packed with people of all ages, kids to pensioners. We were next to a girl that travelled from Holland just for the show. Dolly put on a fantastic show which I really enjoyed even though I’m not a die hard fan like my wife. I tried to get tickets for this years tour but all venues sold out almost instantly. My sister in law and her family were at Glastonbury specifically to see her so I imagine a great number of Sunday’s crowd were as well.

I read somewhere, possibly on here a while back, that when Yeager was selected to try to break the sound barrier one of the other possible pilots was dismayed by the choice and complained to his senior officer. The response was along the lines of “Well son, we’re not sure this is going to work, it may even explode. So when you see Yeager think of one word – expendable”.
Not sure if it’s true or myth but I like it.

I couldn’t find the information on the talk we had but I did have a browse through a couple of Mosquito books and this is from de Haviland Mosquito, Martin W. Bowman:
The first version of the segmented Youngman frill airbrake was fitted to W4052, the fighter prototype, when the aircraft was at Salisbury Hall. The ‘frill’ could be opened by a bellows and venturi arrangement to provide rapid deceleration during interceptions and was tested in a number of different forms between January – August 1942 but the idea was shelved when it was found that lowering the undercarriage in flight had the same effect.
I thought it might be of interest.

Good question. The information about the air brake and undercarriage came from a talk we had at our club years ago. The chap was an author and had written various magazine articles on the Mosquito but for the life of me I can’t recall his name at the moment. If I get a chance at the weekend I will try to check up on who it was. He had various slides on the air brake being tested and we asked about the effect on air flow over the tail surfaces etc but I don’t think anyone asked about Vle.

I was told years ago that the system worked but during testing it was found that the same effect could be had by lowering the undercarriage so the air brake was idea was not persued.

Hi CD. You may well be correct as I thought the same but I have seen references (can’t recall where at the moment) to it being dingy as the codewords were connected and it was reading this some time ago that led me to look up the meaning of the word.

Because at the time dingy meant pretty much the same as nigger yet there doesn’t seem to be any fuss over it being used as (I’m guessing) this meaning has just about been forgotten. My view is that both words should be used, I don’t think the viewing public need as much protecting as the P.C. brigade think. I just find it a little strange that we have two words with practically the same meaning yet one causes a stir and the other doesn’t get mentioned.

If we have finished discussing the use of the dogs name should we talk about the second code word, which I believe is not dinghy as in small boat, but dingy, which is/was another derogatory term used in a similar way during the ’40s & ’50s. If they change the code word nigger will they need to change dingy as well?

Oh I see, they put the wrong sprue in the box rather than an error with the moulds. I never bought one with the base included.

While I agree there have been some howlers, Airfix’s dambuster complete with upper turret.

When did this happen? I have built several of these since they modified the mould from the standard one in the early ’90s. Sure, the turret glass is included on the clear sprue (easier to leave it than remove it) but the fuselage on the kits I built had all been modified for the dambuster i.e. fairing removed and hole for the turret filled in. I haven’t built the brand new version released last year. Are you saying this error is in the new version?

Hi Moggy, really glad you’re not seriously hurt and hope you are fully recovered soon. It just goes to prove my old mum was right, the devil does look after his own 🙂
