Thanks, i’ll have a diet coke please.;) (lol)

Not sure i’m getting your F/A-18 question, you’re talking about F-18L or something else, i’m sure i read somewhere about some countries, Canada or Australia , can’t remember , having a “lightened” F/A-18 , don’t remember the details exactly from the top of my head . Anyway this is a subject for another topic. 🙂

    what if.. just if…

its a MiG-29K with out the tailhook attached yet!

Where’s the IFR then? And for who is it, India ? Why would they suddenly not want the IFR anymore ? Russian Navy ? Why wouldnt they want the IFR? And where are the zig-zags on the nose cone ?;)

Goood one mack…I actually failed (or better still, lazy) to notice the lack of probe because any new built MiG-29 will be based on the MiG-29K/KUB and hence was under the illusion (??) that the provision for the refueling probe/refueling probe to be a part, as standard.

Are you pointing out the the bump in front of the OLS on the nose section? IN’s MiG-29K/KUB and the MiG-35 also had some sort of that bump infront of their OLS, isn’t it? I coulddn’t get the one on spine you mentioned and the new fairing behind the landing gear.
Btw, looking at the IFR probe area don’t you think they intend to install a less costly & complicated bolt-on type IFR probe like that on SMT?

These are the mods i could spot. For the nose bump, i’ve looked at alot of K/KUB pics and although there seems to be “something” like a small antenna of sorts (at least on some pics ), it doesn’t look anything like, or in the same position as this fairing on the M2. Btw it’s on the OPOSITE side from the OLS ( i don’t know if you were talking about the fairing in front of the OLS-or more accurately perhaps, integrated with).

Certainly it would possible to use the bolt-on probe, i guess. But perhaps the lack of it has more “political ” reasons.

Anyone noticed wing folding mechanism and beefed-up landing gears for carrier ops. Why would Syrians want to buy a new Mig-29KUB with a wing folding mechanism anyway?

Well you could say the same about F/A-18 for instance. I’m sure this been done to death before, maximum commonality (thus lowering price , avoiding redesigning and re-testing parts etc.)plus aparently advantage for storing the aircraft (wings folded takes less space) beefed gear useful for STOL performance etc.

If the syrians wouldn’t wanted those features , well who’s gonna pay to have them changed, then certified etc.etc ? Not Mikoyan.

But the main reason is maximum commonality …why you think they’ve used exactly the same airframe for the single and twin-seater ,with the double canopy ?

Wish You all a GREAT YEAR ahead…. HAPPY NEW YEAR to all of you guys….. 🙂

what is the stroy behind this one….this photo is dated 27 Dec 2011 and classified as a MiG-29M2/35. The number of 747 also looks new. The nose cone is a regular one…..either the normal slotted array or have they completed the Zhuk-AE??

I’ve asked the same question since the day the photo apeared, both here and on russian fora. It’s rumoured it might be the Syrian MiG-29M2, note lack of IFR , new sensors on the nose and spine , and that “thing” right behind the landing gear leg wich some folks say it might be the fairing for the new SOAR system (different from the fairing on 154). Also on the wingtips there’s something that looks like SOLO -the two black dots.

So yeah , if you bump into Mr. Evgeny Volkov by any chance , ask him nicely if he’s having more of this most interesting new bird.
    😉
Btw, Happy New Year to everyone too.:)

Yeah … when they get them all, one hell of an Airforce with the whole 154 F-15S/SA( old ones to be modernized), the (87?) Tornado IDS GR4-like, and the at least 72 Typhoons.

You’re right, I was thinking of Indian air force MiG-21PF (which had to have an external gun pod fitted)…:o

I apologize for correcting you again ( no intention to patronize you or whatever :o) , indian ones with the pod are FLs.

Did Finnish MiG-21F13 even have guns?

Um…of course , one 30mm NR-30 on the right side, like any other F-13.

The way i see it Su-34 is better than Su-30MKI and Su-35S in the attack mission by a considerable margin (attack optimised avionics , more fuel , more survivability , integrated EO sensor freeing the hardpoints for maximum ordnance , better distributed workload etc.)

Su-35S (and to some extent the older Su-27M ), are considerably better than Su-34 for the air to air mission, lighter , better TW ratio , more maneuverable, A-A optimised radar etc . etc .

Now , Su-30MKI type airframe has a bit of both. It can do well what both Su-34 and Su-27M/Su-35S can do , but not as good as either in their respective role. Still it’s an excellent “bang for the buck ” package, great for export too. It would probably made more sense to indeed get a similar airframe in the nineties for VVS, considering the severe cash shortage, BUT i guess weighting both the pros and cons of having two separate airframes for the A-A and A-G mission even in those difficult days ,the russians decided to go the way they did for very good reasons.

Both Su-34 and Su-35S are great at what they are suposed to do , and Su-30MKI is great at what IT’s suposed to do.:)

    My 2 cents.

meantime, 53 is being unloaded at Zhukovsky

Thanks for the news. Is it painted in same splinter cammo like 51 and 52?:)

And what’s that “thing” on the LERX ??? … looks like some kind of extension similar to the LCA-N … or is that a standard feature I missed ?

    Deino

Standard on the new K/KUB, MiG-35 demonstrators( 961 and 967) etc … Krueger flaps to aid in low speed lift.

Photogallery of the last Su-27SM3s delivered to RuAF on KnAAPO.ru . I think they tried to conceal most of the bort numbers this time .:) (probably at RuAF’s request)

I’ve looked at a few K/KUB pics i could find from similar angle, the hook is sticking out from between the engines , this one doesn’t seem to have a hook. And why it doesn’t have an IFR ? Very interesting .

Guys, what is THIS ? I’ve followed the discussion below the picture …i will say this is the Syrian MiG-29M2. What you think ?

    http://russianplanes.net/ID61703

It doesn’t seem to have IFR, and it seems to have some sensors (i presume) on the nose, and half way up the spine , which reminds me of those on Su-35S !

Interesting …would be nice to be able to ask the folks who claims to know things thru this “financial astrology” or other kinds of “astrologies”, and claimed to “predict” or more often “to have predicted” all this economic crisis ,riots, revolutions, WW3 shortly etc:

Is this stuff coming from Uranus?:)

( Btw, of course , everyone know the world end on december 21, 2012 right ? The mayans said, and what the mayans say you better believe. )

Oh, this is a topic about F-22…ummm… omg look at all those rivits on it !(actually looks very nice in that picture)
