What’s with the “old” Su-30MKK, will it fly in formation with the T-50s and perform at MAKS? Wouldn’t it look better to use one of the newer, “shinier” birds (like an M2) for this purpose ?

Oh i see. Brain fart, i see MiG-29M2s everywhere! :highly_amused:
You don’t have a pic of that Su-30M2 yet ? What about the new Su-27SM3s, have you heard anything about how many are bought ? Thanks.

Can you elaborate a bit more Berkut please? Presumably you talk about a different bird than 741 and 747? But i don’t understand the Sukhoi part, you mean a portrait of P.O. Sukhoi ?
PS: Or perhaps you mean the new M2 looks like a Sukhoi because of the cammo, which is not grey, so presumably it’s something like on Su-35S 01/02/03 or Su-27SM3? Come on talk to me man :p

Besides the brazilian F-5s are properly upgraded aircraft, IFR, new radar, missiles, MFDs, CHFL and so on and so on. I don’t know how more “objective” the discussion can be, anyone with a modicum of aviation knowledge worth his salt can see what Saeqeh and Azarakhsh are (unfortunately), and they will never buy the pathetic mullah cronies propaganda. And if you let your religion influence your view of what these aircraft are, and you’re expecting some sort of “objective” confirmation of your own beliefs about Saeqeh (BVR? Bigger ? New radar? Please…) no wonder you “don’t know” how many they have, no offense.

Btw, the political rant is necessary to explain why Saeqeh is what it is.

Perhaps there’s still hope for a MiG-35 contract this MAKS?

I’ll keep it short. Based on what i know, this Saeqeh thing is just for propaganda, and a pathetic one at that. It has practically no capability left (it’s heavier, cockpit interface exactly the same as F-5, most likely it doesn’t even have the radar anymore as they will need ballast to offset the TWO tails now, can’t carry the AIM-9, there’s a pic of ONE with the rails but that means nothing). It wasn’t really intended to be that, apparently one story is that the last decade the iranians wanted to copy the F-5, but they hit the problem of copyright ( imo can’t figure out why would they have cared anyway) so they had to change it in order not to be called a copy, hence the two tails. It was also planned to have modern avionics (perhaps chinese, or from other sources, there’s rumour about some Grifo radars delivered via Pakistan, not sure how true).

Anyway, as you could see on the prototype, it at least looked logical, it had a bigger section nose to presumably cater for the twin tail, and possibly for a bigger radar dish, modified intakes which (i thought and hoped) are for a bigger engine later on, like an RD-33, what a little rocket that would have been, there are several pics of a similar model around. But whatever happened, the project apparently failed ( i’ve heard of serious aerodynamic problems due to the changes- i’m sure they could have been sorted out if there was the will, and especially the technical base), but here the retarded mullahs enter the scene, they demanded, against the IRIAFs opinion, to convert some F-5s with twin tails solely for propaganda purposes. The IRIAF did not wanted that because as one can see, they are 5 or 6 wasted airframes, and IRIAF needs every damn airframe now, but they couldn’t do anything.

Same story with the Azarakhsh, it was a serious avionics projects (with MFDs, Grifo radar etc.) but that failed (not sure why, lack of expertise, lack of avionics, or perhaps the mullah cronies) and instead they painted several of the F-5s green and with fake radomes and call it “indigenous”. Worse of all is the story of the Shafaq, cancelled, you have to be really stupid to alienate the russians, but the mullahs did it. That would have been a beautiful little modern aircraft.

It seems to be most of these initially intended as serious projects were started in the nineties, but most if not all failed, mostly because of the lack of a viable technical base , and became increasingly used for propaganda in a pathetic way by the increasingly desperate mullahs and their cronies, which also are authoring grotesque things like that Qaher abomination, or that silly drone. Moral of the story is, mullahs and ayatollahs and their cronies do not mix with technology, they don’t understand it’s importance, their number one goal is power and money, and deceiving their own peoples ( they don’t deceive the outseid world , that’s for sure, they are not smart enough) I was always wondering myself why IRIAF doesn’t have chaff& flare dispensers on their most important F-14s like they have in some of their F-4, and why the TorM1 and other best equipment Iran has is given to the IRGC. Answer is because the mullahs are afraid of an army coup hence why the IRIAF and the army are held on a lifeline, and the best gear goes to the IRGC fanatics.

In conclusion, i hope for the sake of the iranian people that the mullahs will be overthrown as soon as possible and replace by a military secular leadership, the mullah idiots are driving the country into a war because of their ineptitude and inability to maneuver politically around the US/israeli plans ( like i said, you have to be really stupid to alienate the russians ), not only that, but they left it practically defenseless! This is what the mullahs and ayatollahs can do to a country.

    Iraqi Mi-35?

Well, some say it’s azerbaijani, but aren’t their Mi-35Ms either that dark gloss green, or that white colour ? Would they want them in desert cammo now? Perhaps AtillaA can help us here.
Imo, there’s still a good chance it might be iraqi.

Great stuff Jo and Berkut (btw how one can find the RP pictures that are either not public or on moderation, is there something you have to click on ?)
Regarding those 16 new SMTs, thanks to Paralay i think it’s pretty sure now that they will be partially built airframes from the nineties that are going to be completed, look here there are loads of 9.13, UB etc. still left.

What i would really like to know about this SMT deal, when they talk about the 16 on order do they refer to upgrading the in-service SMTs to the standard we saw in trials a few days ago (but if so, the price looks ridiculously high- although could that price be referring to the price for upgrading ALL 32, if the option is exercised?), or perhaps they will upgrade 9.13S and/or 9.13 with lowest hours (but again price wise, see above), or these will be legacy airframes from MiGs stock, but as we know from several years ago apparently they finished all the legacy airframes ( presumably the 70 or so 9.12 and 30 or so 9.13, plus some UBs), perhaps they still had some CKD kits left, i’m only saying that because i’ve read in some sources that North Korea was apparently planing license (or kit) production of the MiG-29, but obviously the fall of USSR stopped that. Finally, these will be new built, but this is the least possibility imo, as again, they said a few year ago that any new MiG-29s will have to be from the new unified family, and of course, it doesn’t make any sense to build completely new SMTs!

I’m inclined to believe MiG still had some legacy (unfinished?) airframes or perhaps kits left, but you never know. Can any of our russian aviation experts with inside knowledge help us here? Paralay? Flateric?

So we should assume that it will fly at MAKS? Have the daily flight schedules for the show been released? Thanks.

    Hi Ink,
The annual report from Sokol (2012) has a few details about the syrian order, especially the comments under the article seems to indicate most of the work on the syrian MiG-29M2 (or rather, work on the subasemblies) is done or in advanced stages for most of the first 12 aircraft (not clear if the syrian contract was for 12 or 24). While the order itself seems to have been cancelled, there must be several airframes ready or almost ready.

Also, see these photo reports, AT LEAST two MiG-29M2s are practically ready.
