Well, apart from the bay shots, all it was was apparently that model at the show made to “fly” on the screen, probably they took it down out of embarassment (pretty much everyone who’ve seen it said that video was crap), as it was absolutely nothing “secret” there.:p

There was a rumour about a flight on SDF on or about january 25-26th i think, right ? About the time the last good picture emerged ( the one from below/front of it landing), need to re-check that.

Speaking of the late model MiG-29s…remember the controversy about MiG-35’s configuration, we all know the model with 11 hardpoints, different tails, F-15 like wings etc. Well, it looks like the “final” configuration is practically the same as K/KUB as suspected, including IFR , which on the current MiG-29M/M2 is missing for some unaccountable reason! Wonder if they started the ~1000TRM Zhuk AESA testing yet.

Speaking of the F-4E, i did found an article about them in one of past CA magazines, “Sharks of Bushehr” or something like that. The interesting bits there were mention of integration of various A-G munition with seeker technology largely based on AGM-65A, and updating AIM-7E and APQ-120 with solid-state electronics, though not necessarily being upgrade programs.

Now, does anyone know if there are similar articles about F-5E types? I know lately there has been articles on F-4 , F-14 , MiG-29, Mirage F-1, but unless i missed something, nothing on F-5 and iranian derivatives. Thanks.:)

Well, i would love to see one of these, real , functional , flying. It would be awesome, because the CONCEPT -if not it’s execution, and some details- is a looker. Maybe it’s possible they are indeed realistic and think of this F-313 as a 21st century Piranha, or something like that.

But it’s just looking at past “achievements” like those four or five blue 2 tailed F-5 with little to no tactical use other than propaganda (some have no radar, some lack wingtip launchers, different types of attaching the fins even), and the apparent current state of IRIAF, i don’t know what to believe.

But yeah, would absolutely love to be proven wrong. Btw, it would be great to see one day good pictures of those 2 RC models they flew.

Combat aircraft magazine had the report it was called “The Last Sharpshooters” by Babak Taghavee, the E are getting an upgrade as well.

I think it is the case they have F-4D available to work on and they can’t be too choosy!

The upgrade was authorised in 2008 as project Dowran, the upgrade was split into two phases. The second phase adds a significant amount of Chinese avionics.

I won’t direct post to the article as I kind of regard that as stealing but here is a link to an Iranian forum with overhaul images plus some links from the article about half way down:

    http://www.iranmilitaryforum.net/air-forces/iriaf-f-4s/275/

Interesting , thanks for the details. Any similar information regarding the F-4E?
Imo, that what they should’ve done since the NINETIES dammit, not those totally useless F-5 with 2 tails and nothing else conversions ( or at least, not more than one to test the new tails and intakes for a potential F-5 developement , the one with 2 tails and RD-33 engine we saw in model form- not talking about Shafaq), not this pathetic mock-up we saw these days , but a sound , realistic upgrade and overhaul programme for their F-4, F-5 and F-14 , and if possible the Mirages. And preferably go ahead slowly but surely with Shafaq. It would not have been impossible to do all this, even despite the political climate , and IRIAF would have been a more credible force to contend with, especially regionally. But i guess they have to “thank” those *** ayatollahs for this.

There was a report in air combat magazine recently about them.

They have been receiving structural and avionic updates. A mix of Chinese and Iranian components. Certainly a Chinese cockpit display and possibly a new Chinese HUD.

The components are probably similar (or the same) as those used for the F-4D life extension program. They have been integrating the KLJ-7 radar on the F-4D allowing integration of Chinese missiles like the PL-12. Integrating the KLJ-7 on the Mig-29 would represent an improvement over the current installed set and allow standardisation on new Chinese missiles. It should fit in the nose of the Mig-29 and the Chinese have experience installing domestic radar on the Su-27.

Any source or pics for that by any chance? Would find it strange they would upgrade the handful of Ds as opposed to the numerous E’s anyway.

Any particular reason why the MiG-29K and UPG are not in the static display at least?:(
Anyway, interesting that AMCA bay , it seems it can hold 5 BVR missiles.
