Looks like departure for Canada is now the 23rd, not 22nd as previously planned.
Well, at least I tried, but I got the bland, non- committal, politically correct response from one of my MP’s assistants that I expected. I just hope that someone from the CWHM reads this and understands that THOUSANDS of people in the UK are very grateful for them have the determination to achieve this amazing undertaking.
I hope you’re right David – I want a T shirt!
The LAHC has advised me that there will be no CWH souveniers on sale at East Kikby on Sunday. What a shame and missed opportunity – UK website delivery is 28 days, I think, plus P & P costs.
Many a true word spoken in jest, Wokka Bob. According to my (admittedly very rough) calculations, the number of front line fighters defending this country is only three times greater than the number of airworthy Spitfires and Hurricanes we have here. Putin must be laughing his socks off at us.
Well, I’ve emailed my MP now, so we’ll see what happens (but I think I can guess!)
Thanks Charlie. I suppose, if they can repair the original engine in time, they might delay the departure until after it has been refitted (say a week?) which might mean that the Arrows are home – or is that just very wishful thinking?
I’m thinking of emailing my MP and asking him to ask the PM to make a statement of thanks to Canada, in Parliament, for assisting in the rembrance of the lost crews of Bomber Command. Do you guys think such a request is silly, or worthwhile?
Oh bother, I hadn’t realised that the Red Arrows are likely to be overseas at the time. That does rather put the kybosh on things. It seemed like such a good idea at the time, but I should have known that better brains than mine have been thinking all this through!
Surely it would be easier to organise a big send off (i.e. with Red Arrows, etc.) than the planned greeting that was ruined by poor weather? The Mynarski Lancaster is hardly likely to set off home when the weather is poor, and her departure time would be much more certain than her arrival time from Iceland was. Unless I am missing something, planning a big send off would be (relatively) simple. It would also be a good way of thanking the CWH for their valiant undertaking.
From what I can see tomorrow’s weather is o.k, only light rain showers – I wouldn’t have thought that would deter them…….
Looking at FR24, it looks as though she’s going to land at Coningsby. Is there a problem?
Footage of them flying at Eastbourne on https://twitter.com/CWHM. Can’t find C-GVRA on flightradar24 though…
This describes exactly what is planned but no formation flying is mentioned.

I read this the same way as Bomberboy, but updated CWH Lancaster Tour Schedule says “Both Lancasters will land at RAF Waddington and after a short visit, will depart with the Avro Vulcan and two Hawks for a formation flight.” (Source: http://www.warplane.com/lancaster-2014-uk-tour.aspx) My guess is that will fly in formation, but not over Waddington – i.e. en route to their next destination (RAF Marham) and will probably be filmed on the way. I don’t understand the relevance of the two Hawks though.
I think the local papers were saying that Kenley flypast is to be sometime between 12:00 and 13:00. Sorry I can’t remember the exact time.
