Great photos. Is the Lancaster this one?

I guess the answer would be in Quill’s logbook, wherever that is. Also, might he have mentioned it in one of the books he wrote?
I still think that the two angled rails at the top must be there for a purpose other than structural rigidity, but I don’t know what…….
Makes sense to me too……..
I do wonder if the angled rails at the top were for something to slide along. They could just be for stte gthening but, in my view, that seems unlikely. Are there any signs of wear on them? Just a thought….. Also, are there any markings on the lamp which might date it? Hope this helps.
Something to do with bomb aiming, or gunner training, perhaps?
You’re welcome, Whitley_Project. I just wish I could help more.
Cheers, Andrew
Regarding the ‘camera photo’, I’m not sure that this helps, but I do know that some of the Wellingtons serving with No.1845 B&G Flight, at RAF Syerston in early 1944, had cameras of some sorted fitted into their rear turrets. I don’t know when these aircraft arrived, but I believe the Flight had previously been at Dunholme Lodge, Fulbeck and Skellingthorpe and probably elsewhere. I thought that might just give you something to work on. Good luck! Andrew
So it appears that this gentleman was born, and was probably married (postwar), in the Hull area. Does this additional information help to unlock his history…….?
I completed the survey and added what I hope were useful comments, but I’m not actually sure that the survey went through…. Great! ?
Just ‘bumping this up’ in the vain hope that my request might be successful…….
Reviving a very old thread. The pilot of this aircraft was F/L William George Baker (DFM) 51161. He is recorded as having being liberated from German capture on 4th May 1945 and thus survived the war – relinquishing his RAF commission on 18th July, 1949.
What a muffin! I think it’s actually “N.E.” which probably means “Non Effective”.
“Why are we all here?” asked the speaker, rhetorically – and a voice from the back said “Because we’re not all there!” – Not that I’m questioning our collective sanity…….?
There is a possibility that Sqd/Ldr A Cain could be Albert Cain (1539877). He apparently enlisted at Padgate in April 1941, but I can’t find out anything else about him………
