Hi
As it is a year on and there is all this interest in the whirlwind…
I thought I would bump this, I still haven’t found out anymore info.
cheers

Jerry, I think I lent you the video and you did return it to me! It has since disappeared though but I don’t think I lent it to anyone else. As I recall, it was only a fraction of the material on YouTube but did include extra footage of 311 Sqn at Talbenny.
Dave Smith
Hi Dave,
I copied it back in 1998/9 was it ? around about the time I sent you some Isle of man wartime grid maps.
I recall I luckily had a friend with two vhs recorders and he copied it,If you wish I will try to copy it to a cd or dvd,Let me know,But it may take a while as I have my car in bits on the driveway at the moment.
‘That will teach me to buy a subaru he says’
‘Better with a Fix Or Repair Daily or a Fix It Again Tony me thinks…’
Cheers
Jerry
Hi
Thanks for posting the link, I had this on vhs years ago and never got around to putting it on my computer, saves me from having to do it now.
If it is the full film, there is also some harrowbeer on it as well.
cheers:D

Undercarriage or major parts of would be a great help as would anything from the tail end and controls. An engine would be nice and anything to do with the centre section and radiators. Obviously cockpit but I doubt we would ever be that lucky as its right at the sharp end in an impact with solid ground.
Hi
Now you have just reminded me, I was told there is a engine naccelle from
P6969, recovered via a fishing net ? It was in the late 80’s with a private collector in Cornwall.

Going back to the old chestnut of the Whirlwind sent to the states ? and then allowed to fall apart so much so the engines fell into a power boat ?.
Is this the same one alledged to have survived into the 1970’s that the RAF turned down so it was burnt on the fire dump at a show ?.
Has any truth to the reports been established ? I know the base is long closed.
Mike
Hi
P6994 went to the states I have spoken to a few people who saw it and one who flew it, It didn’t fall apart, ended up i a local scrapyard. The engines were “saved’ first for the boat, but I am at a dead end on researching.
The 70’s one was a different one at RNEC Manadon technical department, I had a relative in the RN who was stationed there, he kindly offered for me as a kid to see it. No cameras in those days I was a broke kid of 11, I heard later it was offered to RAF, who turned it down and it was burnt on a families day as a fire fighting demo.

…Is there any further information on this report please, does anyone know of the museum and these references ?.[/QUOTE]
Hi
If it was Germany I would suggest that it was most probably in the Rechlin area, as this is where SF-H (or parts of it) went.

Hi
Awesome news, It re-inforces my belief that in Canada, politicians are worried about what voters think.
Excellent that the mosquito will be around for years to come.
Good luck to all involved in the project.
Cheers
Jerry
Hi Ross,
Thanks for the reply,It must have been a bit of me, misreading your post and wishful thinking of a stirling & manchester in coastal colours.

Jerry
2341 (CANADA/Surrey, private, Ed Zalesky, stored?)
2344 (CANADA/Surrey, private, Ed Zalesky, stored?)
2381 (CANADA/Surrey, private, Ed Zalesky, stored?)
Hi
Not sure where they are now, as Ed Zalesky went in 2009, presumably the collection of a/c was sold ?

Ross
Hi Ross,
Curiosity is getting me …
Do you know when, which unit/s, of coastal command used these aircraft.
It might give some interesting colour schemes for some models….

Hi Elliott – A Good start maybe?
Hi
Yep:rolleyes:
Maybe you could export a few UK examples to Canada we don’t have enough yet to equip a squadron to defend our nothern territories .
It would be nice to have one per province.:D

Jerry
Hi
I would suggest instead a run of 1:24 models as a fund builder.

Jerry
How about a project simlilar to the reconstructed Defiant?
Cees
Hi
I seem to recall there already is a cockpit section and nose done with wood.
Perhaps it might be fitting to devote the resources to completing it.
In memory of the builder and also those who served on the whirlwind, assuming that the now owner would give permission.

It would be a more achievable/realistic option ?

Hi Guys
One thing I did spot and was facinated by was a photograph I assume taken in France of a Whirlwind that had been apparantly shot down by the Germans and is pictures on the ground having done it seems a wheels up and is surrounded by German airforce personnel.Anyone know any info on this one ?.
Hi
There are a few photos of crashed whirlwinds roughly as described, could you give us a few more clues.
i.e. are there what appears to be poles in the background, is the fuselage in one piece,is one engine damaged, is there a building in the photo.
cheers
Jerry
