lucky enough to meet him a few times, see his lecture at OW about 5 years ago and see him display Nel at Weston Park in the 80’s. Told me that that he once crashed Nel in Ireland on the Saturday, went home, rebuilt her and displayed at Weston Park the following day!

    RIP

Im sure they used to play something by Elgar while the balbo was forming up during the early years which stirred the emotion, they should bring that back (or Aces High by Iron Maiden).

Id started to get bored with Duxford shows as they can be samey, this year we went to Chino and i wont moan about Duxford again, the warbirds tended to make two or three level passes in the same direction, it doesnt matter what you see at Duxford, when you are that close you can feel the engines appreciate it as not every where is like this.

I took a shot of the notice board in front of the Siemens-Shuckart D.IV but when i looked at it i only took the name as I did not recognise it,Air Britain has it as a replica

You really have to do the trip, we’ve been putting it off for years even though we have family in Phoenix as we didnt think we could afford it. I tried costing it myself and knocked it on the head when I got to a stupid figure but then went to our local co-op who have a make your own holiday and they came up well under my price. To put it into context we went to a nice (5*) hotel in Malta 2 years ago for 12 nights, b and b only and the USA trip was only £900 more for the two of us for 14 nights. Considering what we got im pleased with what we paid but wont be doing anything like it for a few years now. I had to put a lot of ground work in before booking, including pointing out to the travel agent that they initially booked the wrong Ontario, they had booked us a flight to Ontario Canada not L.A. and came back with a total cost of £9000!!!!! Nearly fell off my chair when they told me that one.

To be honest you need two days at Pima if you can, this last lot brings us back us back to the start and our flight back to Manchester. Two weeks, 7 flights, 4 hotels, 1200 miles in the hire car and all for not much more than a holiday to a decent resort in the med and back to Duxford the following week.

    Thanks for looking
