I have seen footage of the F27 display, but with over 300 aircraft built, and at the same time as the Fokker in the DC3 replacement role, similar over 6 tonne cargo capacity (srs 2 748s), and post production large side cargo doors options, i dont think it can be knocked out too easily.
Ah but does the Fokker 27 have the same STOL capability as say the HS748? I know that i am slightly biased here…
i popped in today too – everyone seemed to be quite excited qbout the JetX – i wasnt so – its CDG based, so i see it almost every day!
ah, it always amuses me.
Any mention of the ATP, Shorts330’s or BAe146’s is like waving a red flag in front of a bull for wys LOL
Meanwhile for others (myself included), have made special efforts to get a hop on any one, (or in my case all!!!) of the above – strange eh!
How confusing! Especially after iv got all the swiss ones! Grrrrrrrr….
I “think” Liverpool also saw 3 at a time on a couple of occasions for the grand national charters – i have deffinatly seen 2 on the ground, and poss pics of 3 at once.
The airline has again put a huge seat increase on its “bread and butter” routes. Considering it was only 18 months or so that jet2 started slowly operating its services out of LBA this a huge growth, and just shows on how other operators have been loosing out, and jet2 have found their niche!
The only problem is now they are getting to be so well known the special offers are getting snapped up much faster, but thats life. As said above i think Jet2 may well start to move into newer territory again soon, Ibiza is a start, and possably a 4x weekly Mahon, but what about more mainland european routes?
I do have to say there are some hoffific c/s in those shots, but a great aircraft nethertheless. I still daily see HZ-HM5/6 of the Saudis here at LBG, now that is a smart livery!
Probably a service i would consider usuing after this years first Eastern European experiance for myself – good luck to them!
I dont know when it will be officially anoounced, but at least Jet2 appear to be filling the void which is been left by some of the charters, but then again some of the charter routes may be being dropped because of Jet2s entry into the market.
However i am sure this route will be another winner, and the total number of seats provided on the service will be greater than the capacity lost to the charters.
Maybe some more continental destinations for us next – Cologne would be nice please!!
Been to Gran Caneriaa myself, but that was back in 99 – in those days there was a new Airtours hotel (timeshare place) near the smaller airstrip where the DC-6 is stored, and airtours had the aircraft painted up in AIH livery – certainly interesting passing it on the motorway! Hope they didnt intend to use it as a back up if the shiny A321 arrived on went tech!!! 😉
A great view into a differant side of aviation! Great thread.
WOW! Not a regular on this forum (more Airliners), but I spend most of my time working in Paris, between LBG and CDG – and i’m staying until Sat on LBG at the Kyriad Prestige! Anybody in the area and fancy a visit on Friday? If so PM me – so glad i stumbled accross this thread!
A lot of them have come out of the desert, I can’t think of any previous airlines off the top of my head, although the fleet stands at 26 747s now. 2 -400s, 5 -300s, and 19 -200s. Several have been scrapped recently, and there are no -100s left if they ever operated them?
They certainly did operate B741s – TF-ATE as said above was my ride for several days in October 2002
I saw the WestAir ATP parked up on the cargo apron at GLA on my way past today…first time I’ve seen the scheme in the flesh…interestin if you notice that they have simply painted over the white of the BA livery with the grey and applied decals onto the fuselage. Still using the BA blue belly and engines…hehe
I dont think that westair took any BA models. Most were ex Air Winsconsen (United Feeder (Emerald took the other 3 of these)), and then they added British World examples, i really dont think that the liv is actually purposly designed that way!
