Hmm…that is completely false.
Ooooh wise master.
Thank you very much for your supreme enlightenment and your illustrious explanations
Thats because an IRST isn’t a replacement for a radar by a long shot
Gee weez, few posts ago dynamo was lauding so much the capabilities of the 20 year old AAS-42 that he made me believe that the Americans should have installed a new model/generation of an IRST on the Raptor.
The best IRST is considered the AAS 42 introduced an F 14 D in 1992. It can detect (weather dependent, of course) a “cold” target at > 150 km. By contrast, the best Russian IRST (OLS 35 of the Su 35) can detect a cold target at 40 km. Almost 20 after the AAS 42 !
Gee wizzz…
If the Americans could do that 20 years ago, then they should be able to deploy an even better IRST now….and screw the heavy, expensive and self-exposing radars.
But wait….on their Raptor, they installed a radar but no IRST
In case of a hypothetical war, the winner of the air battle will be the one who will destroy the oponent’s stealth aircraft on the ground. The aircraft that has the advantage is not the one that is slightly stealthier than the other, but the one that has longer legs.
And if the quoted range (to be confirmed) of the T-50 at 5500km is correct, then it will be operating from airfields that are out of range of the Raptor.
Checkmate (Russian style).
New video of the first flight:
Go POGO go.
Congrats.
Then comes the system “Tor”, working on short range. Average distance to cover up “Vityaz”, which I have already said, then – C-300 PM and C-400. Long-range and upper boundaries should watch mobile missile defense system, which is still under development.
That part about the VITYAZ is interesting. So that midium range system is under development and will be fielded. Probably around 40 – 60 km range.
Not really. The SA-2 system is still useful, because it has an optical guideance system and pose a constant threat by that in the fine-weather conditions of the ME.
Actually later versions of the S-75 (SA-2) have a ground target attack mode. One of the buttons on the control pannel switches it to that mode. The button is called ZEMLYA (which means ground in Russian). In that mode, ground targets of known coordinates can be hit with reasonable accuracy. The range is limited though to 25km.
In Hezbollah’s case, the ground attack mode is not very usefull as they have already an arsenal of much cheaper and smaller rockets that can go much further than that.

The codename system is so cold-war stereotype, cliche, depasse, antique, obsolete. It is more appropriate for teenagers playing PC games.
But in any case, if an idiotic ASIC codename is going to be assigned to the aircraft that is going to beat and humiliate the Raptor in future air combat, then I suggest:
Flamebait
:D:diablo:
The PAK-FA first flight is imminent….
In the meanwhile, a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year…from Sukhoi.

A late modelUSAF F-86 Sabre was shot down by Colonel Pepelyaev during Korea.
The aircraft crashlanded at the seacoast and sustained limited damage. That aircraft was evaluated. The most interesting feature that the Soviets got out of that airplane was the advanced (for that time) sighting system.

Venezuelan F-16s…
Why did they cange the TEL-truck for the S-400 system? That old KamAZ was pretty cool.. (OTOH I bet its refueling-bills could have made even Chuck Norris cry like a baby).
There was never a KAMAZ truck. It was the MZKT truck made in Belarus. The one that hauls the S-400 is the BAZ from BZKT made in Bryansk (Russia).
…and some news to cheer you up.
The VVS has received two more Su-34 aircraft yesterday.
