The only UAVs that have “days” of endurance are high-altitude UNARMED versions. The X-47B (or any other similarly designed UAV) does not have that kind of endurance.
An F-15E (or SE), with all the bells & whistles that come std on the F-35, costs more than $100 million. That is at least 25% more than a FRP F-35.
I said “should” because while US companies (AMRAAM, AIM-9X, etc) are all-in on UAI, foreign company participation (ASRAAM, Meteor, etc) is less known (although MBDA is currently working on UAI products).
Initial flight integration will actually be easier because the developer will not have to worry about creating flight profile information for every potential client. They can just create it for UAI and test it on a bird. The only thing that needs to be done on individual airframes is separation tests.

Overall, weapon charges should be less. Each manufacturer will not have to develop “drivers” for each different type of airframe the weapon could be used on. They only have to develop for UAI thereby saving development funds and saving the client money.
UAI will also reduce client costs by introducing completion into the mix. By the 2018 timeframe, clients could choose between AMRAAM, AIM-9, Derby, ASRAAM, Python, Meteor, MICA (radar&IR), IRIS-T, native missile (Turkish, Indian, etc) for any future A2A missile. UAI also brings this idea of competition to A2G munitions & pods.
I will have to dig around, but essentially it creates an API (in computer terms) in which weapon manufacturers can embed all the necessary flight profiles and handling software into a memory stick (or disk, download, etc) for any aircraft that it has been cleared for.
What this will do is remove weapon (and later pod usage) integration from the block upgrade cycle. It will also let weapon & pod manufactures sell to any user whose aircraft has been cleared. Imagine that after Derby is cleared for the F-35 then Israel can sell the Derby to any F-35 user without needing to upgrade the client F-35 (besides the profile on the data disk).

Digging around I found an interesting tidbit. NATO is pursuing a NUAI (NATO UAI) along with the US and Turkey.
OFP codes for weapon and sensor integration is a non-issue as UAI will cover all this (including pods).
Who knows, maybe F/A-XX and ATD-X could be merged.
Doubtful on two major issues.
1. Tech transfer
2. It would be carrier aircraft which is not what the Japanese want, need, or are willing to pay for (think about the cost difference between F-35A & C).
I have not got a satisfactory answer to that one.
Optional manning is also being looked into for the F-35.

As far as the list goes, yes many 4th gen planes poses some of them. It was never meant as a list of 5th Gen only systems. Like I said, the defining 5th Gen feature is a VLO airframe.
Using when an airplane enters production as a basis for it’s “generation” is just silly. By that definition the JF-17, J-10, & the LCA Tejas are a generation beyond the F-16/F-15.
Something as dramatic as that would likely be worthy of a 6th gen moniker, but it is also not likely to happen by Boeing’s F/A-XX timeline either.
The A-10 was designed for 1 thing, massed armored assaults through the Fulda Gap.
Since that is not going to happen, it has taken on other roles like CAS. The A-10 was designed in the days of big missiles (like Maverick) and dumb bombs. The only way to directly attack a target cheaply was with a big gun.
Those days are gone. With the advent of Hellfire, JAGM, Brimstone, Viper Strike, JDAM, SDB & APKWS combined with newer platforms like UCAVs (especially the big ones like Reaper & the new Predator C) & JSF, the need for a low level attack with a big gun (the A-10’s only real advantage) is gone.
btw, The reason the A-16 & F/A-16 (A-10 replacement) failed was that the gun was inaccurate and shook the plane to pieces.
Well Only three persons involve in changing the engine.. and it don’t look too cumbersome too… unlike the Al31Fp.. takes about 10 to 15 persons.. in mounting and dismounting the engine..

Think that’s bad, try changing a Harrier engine. It involves removing the entire wing assembly. (8+ hours).
6th gen = autonomous UCAV IMO.
You mixing platforms. That’s like comparing the B-2 against the F-15E. One is a bomber and the other a fighter.
IMHO UCAVs belong in their own category.

As to those who say why not, I pose this:
Every jump in generational capability is usually marked with a distinct (think killer app) advantage. For the 5th Gen this was obviously VLO airframes.
We already have seen 5th Gen fighters with (or planning to have):
1. VLO airframes to include IR suppression
2. Supercruise at 1.5+ mach.
3. Super-maneuverability
4. Multiple internal weapons bays (necessary for a VLO airframe).
5. AESA radars with integrated EW attack capability.
6. Advanced EW systems that can geo-locate a signal.
7. Cooperative EW systems that share active EW capability accross multiple fighters.
8. Fully automatic & integrated avionics.
9. 360 Degree Situational Awareness (in the IR band & in the WVR rangeband).
10. 360 Degree attack (A2A & A2G) capability.
11. DIRCM missile defensive capability
12. Remote operational control
13. A2G IRST Capability
14. Blue force tracking
15. Long range
So what could a “6th” gen airplane (like Boeing’s F/A-XX) have that would be it’s “killer” benefit?
