I’m talking about dedicated jammers , not to use AEASas for that pupose; and no as a further develppment.
Well, NGJ is a dedicated jammer. Or are you speaking of internal dedicated?
In that case, they can have one if it is deemed needed.
It seems that’s accepted that the F 35 won’t have a jammer. I am not so sure.
1. The F-35 can jam using it’s APG-81.
2. The NGJ is being built with the F-35 in mind.
3. There is room throughout the airframe (including the leading edge sensor bays) to install an onboard jammer if it is ever requested.

The F/A-18E/F and EA-18G program has developed and integrated the AN/APG-79 Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) RADAR system for installation in Lot 26 and subsequent Block II, Super Hornet and Growler aircraft. The integration of the AN/APG-79 AESA RADAR system into the F/A-18E /F and EA18G greatly improves the weapon system’s threat detection range, high resolution Synthetic Aperture RADAR (SAR) ground mapping and targeting capability, aircraft survivability and situational awareness. This OSIP also includes non-recurring for reliability and operational improvements into the AN/APG-65 and AN/APG-73 Radars. The APG-79 is a significantly more reliable radar system. ECP’s identified are ECP-6038 Incorporates APG-79 into Lot 26 and subsequent aircraft, ECP-6279 AN/APG-79 (AESA) Radar Producibility Modification, ECP-6297 Radar B Converter (RBC) Start-Up Circuit Correction, and ECP-6298 RE102 EMI Correction.DEVELOPMENT STATUS/MAJOR DEVELOPMENT MILESTONES:
Forward fit of the AN/APG-79 AESA RADAR system began with 8 units in Lot 27, 12 units in Lot 28 and 22 units in Lot 29. Beginning in Lot 30, all F/A-18 E/F and EA-18G aircraft will be forward fit with the AN/APG-79 AESA RADAR. This OSIP includes the retrofit of the AN/APG-79 AESA system into 133 Lot 26-29 F/A-18E/F aircraft previously outfitted with AN/APG-73. The procurement of kts will commence in FY08 with the first installation occurring in FY09. The installation of kits will be accomplished by a Fleet Support Team traveling to two locations (NAS Oceana and NAS Lemoore) and executing the retrofit or aircraft by squadron. This OSIP also includes funds to support ECP 508 that converts some AN/APG-65 radars to AN/APG-73 and non-recurring for reliability and operational safety improvements / obsolescence into the AN/APG-65 and AN/APG-73-RADAR’s. FY07 Supplemental funding ($5.720M) received for Expand 4/5 includes funding for software integration and to procure 40 Single Module Processing Elements (SMPE) for RUG II equiped aircraft.
They did not give numbers with Lot 26. It may have been a one-off demonstrator with ramp-up in Lot 27. Good eye.

Can you give more details? There have been 18 F-15C with APG-63(V)2 for quite a while, but some of the other numbers are uncertain. How many delivered so far with (v)3? When will IOC be for the (V)3? I’ve found reports of orders for 24 radars up to 2008, including a spare, to be delivered up to this year, which gives a maximum of 41 AESA F-15C by some time later this year.
And how many F-18E Block II built & retrofitted so far? On 26th May 2009, Raytheon said it had delivered 134 radars, & total orders (not deliveries) for retrofits were 38.
Yes, the USA has far more AESA equipped fighters than any other air force, but I think your numbers for F-15C & F-18E may include some not yet delivered.
As I said before, the USAF has a total of 18 APG-63(V)2 and 15 (V)3 equipped F-15s. That’s a total of 33 with none purchased in FY2010. When all 40 get installed, that will give them a total of 58.
Now for the Navy and it’s Block2 upgrades. As of the end of FY2010 they have paid for 73 and installed 36. The plan is to upgrade 133 to AESA. They key here is that the FY2010 budget DID include funds for this project where the F-15 was left out of last year’s budget for AESA upgrades.
Also, all F-18s from Lot 30 on will have the AESA radar.
ALQ-214 contains active emmiters while ASQ-239 is passive only.
Quick update on the APG-63(V)3 upgrades.
Looks like 3 of the 43 will be spares, so only 40 jets to be upgraded so far. Let’s hope the FY2011 has some more money for them.
Also found while digging around, the F-15E JHMCS was funded for a total of 154 with all units installed by FY2010 and no new orders after FY2008.

EW: yes (EW as in the ability to detect and track electronic emissions)
EA: Yes and no. In the forward sector in the X band, yes…. all others, no (Since the APG-81 is X-Band and only covers the front sector)

NGJ is actually planned to be on Growlers as an upgrade, not a replacement.
One of the key elements of the F-35 is that every A2G hardpoint is prewired to handle a NGJ pod. Think of NGJ taking multi-role to the next level. You will no longer need a dedicated EW/EA aircraft.
In this case I presume that the F-15Cs were from Lakenheath? What is the status of the F-15C AESA program in relation to USAFE F-15Cs. Do any of them carry it?

The units installed this year are the first units upgraded using the procurement started in FY2006-07. 43 units have been paid for, but only 15 installed by the end of FY2010.
Internal jammers on stealth planes are extra weight. When lugging external loads you can afford a spot for the jammer.
Define afford. If you are lugging a jamming pod that means that one (or two) of four things.
1. More planes tasked to the group due to the reduced per-plane weapon load.
2. Increased tanker tasking due to reduced fuel carried.
3. Less of a chance of completing the mission due to reduced bombload.
4. When in a furball, toss the pod or loose performance.
