As well as Frank Barnett-Jones’s excellent book shown above, the video buy DD is I believe still available and has interviews with Dennis Healey, Roland Beamont as well as brilliant flying scenes of the TSR2.
For a really good personal account of flying the TSR2, Roland Beamont’s Flying To The Limit is an absolute must!

I have these two as the only ones that crashed in the UK in 1994, there were other British tornadoes in that year that crashed but they were all over seas. There were also German, Itailan and even a Saudi one that crashed that year, but none were in the UK at the time.
ZG708 GR1A Crashed 01-09-94 near Glen ogle, Perthshire (13 Sqn)
ZE809 F3 Crashed 07-06-94 into North Sea 60 miles east of Newcastle (111 Sqn)
Are you sure it was a Tornado and not some other Aircraft?

I Don’t like that shot reminds me of a dead bird

These may be of interest, XR220 being recovered after her mishap at Boscombe Down.

But I have two nearly full 200Gig HDs and it is a long and boring job converting images bitmaps to jpegs just so that I can burn them.
Flood,
Why not get some software like Advanced Batch Converter (ABC) and let that automatically change picture size and formats for you? I’ve used it for a couple of years now, one of the best and simplest pieces of software I own.

Hatton,
They were there right until the end. I had moved further along by then but walked past them still sat in the same place on my way out, I thought at the time maybe I should have said something, but to ease my guilt I told myself they probably would have stayed until the end anyway!

Two guys behind me on departures day at Fairford last week were waiting patiently and excitedly for the last remaining Phantom on the airfield to taxi and take off. ” Its been years since I last saw a British Phantom fly” the one guy said to his mate. I didn’t have the heart to tell them they were in fact staring hopefully at XV408, which of course is sadly awaiting the scrap man. 😡

The Vulcan will be flying again next year and seeing as it can carry as many bombs as a sqaudron of Jaguars perharps the RAF can borrow/lease it when required 😀
The large camo section behind the wing looks like the remains of a Buccaneer to me!
Was this the Lightning that made way for Conningsbys viewing area? (See photo I took below)
There was a buccaneer fuselage on station around the same time, I wonder could it be the same one? (See other photo I took below)

At Waddington airshow on Saturday they played an interview with Dr Robert Pleming with him stating the stage two pass had been reached and that the HLF had released 2.7 million pounds to the Vulcan to the Sky project and from that point on parts of XH558 were now being distributed around the UK for overhaul and that currently at least six tons in parts were already scattered about the country for refurbishment. He also stated in the interview that still more money would be required to get XH558 back into the air for two test fights in the autumn of 2005.
Am I the only person who heard this interview broadcast across the whole of Waddington airfield last weekend?

The way I see it is that it was good to see three Tornados and two Harriers on the flying. Let me explain: the Marineflieger are no longer operating fixed wing aircraft after this year, so it may well be the last display by the German navy.
The F3’s days are numbered as more Typhoons come on strength the last thing the RAF will do is show off its poor dog fighting predecessor. And as for the GR4, well they just rock any way.
By next year the Harrier GR7’s will be upgraded to the GR9 if there are no more cut backs, and we all know the Sea Harriers in its last display season and will be completely retired come 2006.
My advice is enjoy them while their here as one day not so long from now you’ll be telling you children/grand children when visiting museums how you used to see them fly.

I enjoyed the two RIAT shows at Cottesmore but I only live 30 miles away from Fairford and therefore am happy for it to remain there. On the other hand I’m going to Waddington this weekend which is miles away and will take me approximately three hours driving to get to!
Its just a case that you’ll never please everyone.

David,
Do you mind if I ask how you know the owner is moving to France?
If you know him or know of him and he would prefer not to be contacted then I will no longer peruse the matter. It’s just frustrating to know that there are two wonderful vintage jets along the road I live on, and yet I have never seen them!

A380
Well, I found out who sent me the original email and it would appear he heard the news report wrong and that the delivery of the wings today is more likely to be the correct answer.
I myself didn’t think that the A380 was due for roll out until the later part of 2004.
Even though I have a more of a preference to military aircraft than civil, I’m looking forward to seeing the A380 take to the skies.
Thanks to all that replied, Plazz
It was the other way from Instow, past Bideford railway station but before the viaduct which crosses the river.
Anyone know were the Wellington took off from?
