GGS Mk7 is a ‘mildly’ modified Mk5, only the Gyro/Optics sighting head altered, having bigger glass, different lifting lever / arms, and a more rounded head pad. Radar integration was by the usual means, for ranging the graticule. Standard displays on the GGS reflector glass, lots of boxes associated with this ordinary set-up.
AI.17 (and AI.22 in Mk2 or Mk8) added a collimator as you say, a discrete display via CRT slaved to the Radar, with its own reflector glass just in front of the GGS one, the target displayed as a dot so you knew which way to steer if no visual contact.
Both focused at infinity so everything was visible at once. Only the combination of these two qualifies the ‘Blind’ bit. The Range Drive was the only AI-connected part of the GGS.

I have a jotting – I think from info found on the Forum ages ago but can’t spot the thread, so due credit to the originator …
Switch Magnetic Type G (Red spot), Ref: 5C/896, having a 12V coil and designed for intermittent switching of 450A DC – a Starter Solenoid.
Type H similar but 24V coil.
Type J same family (as far as I’m aware):

Agree, Sea Vixen (1020N is it?) – guess it would be a challenge to do anything with unless you have the Plastek? panel to sit over the top. Seems to have started life with G4F, then migrated to G5 compass, yet never had the roller-blind (MRG) type Attitude indicator? Nice though – suspect it will attract a bit of attention.

Peter, all
One thing that I have never managed to unpick with reference to limited info in PNs, and from other limited available references. is the role and function of the additional ‘scope’ sat almost as an afterthought on top of the AI Mk17 CRT 100 Indicator. Pic highlghts this. At first I imagined it might be a copy of the Pilot’s Collimator display, but wonder if it is FIS-related?
And finally, the iris-dimmable Warning Lamp towards the bottom of the CRT 100 – is this perhaps a component of the FIS or purely AI-related?

What an amazing set of finds! Never thought I’d see pics of some of this stuff. Very nice.

Indicator CRT Type 100 – AI Mk17 a-la Javelin and Sea Venom. One of the very few things I’m missing from my Javelin bits collection!

Just to complete the M148 cockpit pictures, keys attached.

Hi Redhillwings, All –
I was in a spin when I saw that Control Handle for sale too, immediately took it to be Javelin because of the Trimmer bridge and general appearance, but on seeing the projection and switch at the bottom, dismissed it.
Hunted down a candidate at the time though, from a document: Buccaneer NA39 (M148) Pilots Notes (Provisional, AL.1 1958)
Convinced myself I had not missed a Javelin item, and relaxed again!

Spookily, I was looking at random cockpit photos online yesterday and remembered a match …
Pembroke C51 OT-ZAD has one, mounted on the same shaped panel – overhead front cockpit:
… and one at the Nav station:

Random picture, credit unknown (apols, Brazilian forum?) but gives a feel:
Hi Redhillwings
TMk7 PNs give the game away I reckon … no idea why the area would be cut out, post-Mod 1841 refers, but not convinced your particular hole ever saw service – they certainly managed to delete the ‘OFF’ position!

Seeking a pic of the lever ….

Looked over a few old photos and drawings, would say that:
The vertical gap between the main panel and the Port panel is where the three AYF Radio Altimeter limit lamps ‘poke through’, perhaps mounted to a supplementary plate just behind. The AYF gauge itself would have been to the lower left of the main panel hanging under your Machmeter, has that little panel ‘outcrop’ been removed too?
The oblong cutout is nasty isn’t it? Fuel selectors? Belly Tank – Wing Tank. Also just there I noted the pull handle for Ventral Tank (i.e. Belly) Jettison.
Hmmm. Limited resources this end, but worth a stab!
Cheers

For a Javelin interior / panel mockup when retirement arrives (although it seems to recede not approach!), I’ve put together a small photo album of bits and things that have eluded me so far entitled WANTED. Prevents me making a mess of the thread and showing myself up.

Many thanks

Thanks Brian.
Sorry my fault for being lazy not adding the ‘Farleigh’ in my post above – yes that was the line I had on view, to just east of Bath.
One thing I’ve never found btw, are any shots whilst at Norwich prior to Elvington.
