Sensible question, but what would the cost be to the taxpayer to get rid of all that carbon fibre?

Ive heard rumours of a million squid an airframe. If that is the case then this deal is a bargin.

MiG21PFM -(might be wrong im going from memory)

I think i worked it out at about £2500 to £3500 per nose.

Qty 30 where available, plus 3 simulators. Condition of airframes good, complete with engines etc. Stored well.
Price per airframe was very good.

Shipping costs are the killer probably looking at £2000+ per container. Plus all the faffing with Customs etc. Additional costs involved as well, ie flights, hotels, paying the locals to do the chopping and hacking. All in a country that doesnt have the best of reputations.

Toyed with the idea of scrapping the majority on site, moving two sims and four or five noses …but the cost per “unit” was still toooooo high for me, especially with no guarantee of sale, potential customs problems, storage this end.

Conclusion was …. “dont go there”…

Chox can you give me the money for the correct paint and the equipment to use on all the aircraft that are painted in-correctly. I will gladly go around and paint the said problem aircraft.

I will also require a regular sum to maintain the paint in the required pristine condition, as I believe that the DayGlo paint was done away with (in the US at least) because it faded rather rapidly.

I look forward to seeing the Lancaster in pink, I think it would look rather nice.

Looks like early BAC 1-11 to me. Pretty sure not related to military Jetstream at all, although im not an eggspurt on Jetstream…

    Sangamo Weston manufactured
The S149- is the part number, whilst the BB… is the serial number.

some of the vibration guages on the 1-11 are “strip” gauges
