I think this may be confusion created by the websites slightly poor turn of phrase. The hangar will be used when a chopper needs maintenance and the weather conditions necessitate some form of cover.

For example a Sea Kings engine covers fold down to form a work platform for the staff to perch on whilst hitting the noisy bits with various hammers – the normal motion of the ship, in a good seaway, can make this act tricky and unpleasant if it goes wrong!. If its blowing a force 6 and lashing it down with rain whilst the lads are up there as well then there will be mutinous grumblings from the senior rates mess for a good while. No skipper in his right mind wants this so giving them a tent to work in is a cheap and cheerful way of preserving a semblence of happiness in the aviation department!.

The retractable hangar therefore does accomodate the choppers, just not in the same way as a permanent hangar does for an embarked ships flight.

    Got it.Thanks again Jonesy.

Here’s what a NY based chinese guy said on another forum..and I kindof agree with him.Even the chinese friends i have hold similar views.

China as a country is OK, with bright future, but in terms of government and human rights… DAMN, have you guys ever talked to the commie bosses in China?

There might be some smart professionals making the shots on economy, but what about the commie bosses in the propaganda department and all those career commie bosses doing just nothing?

What about all the blocked websites, youtube, wikipedia just name a few?

I understand they want to hold on power, but access to wikipedia weakens their rule, really?

China is getting richer, great, my family and friends are doing great. Thank you, Deng Xiaoping. But I don’t really appreciate all the stupid commie bosses up there and telling me what I should read and talk..

No, I am not going back, thank you!

    Thank you Jonesy.
Have any LPD been ever used as a Harrier carrier?
Btw..I was going through this link
    http://www.navybuddies.com/ships/lpd14.htm..
    it says:

Aircraft: none, but telescopic hangar installed aboard. The hangar is not used to accommodate helicopters but on the flight deck there is space for up to six CH-46 helicopters.

So what for is the hangar used?

Well, those countries operate within a very strong Military Alliance! (i.e. NATO and EU) Further, those nations could either operate there aircraft from other platforms (i.e. LHA’s, LHD’s, etc) or cross-dock with Allied Carriers. India is not in that position………Yet, it appears that she is moving in that direction!:D

The Trenton can operate harriers cant it?

So, how are we going to respond when France’s CdG will undergo maintenance? Or Spain’s Principe d’Asturias? Or – untill recently – Italy’s Guiseppe Garibaldi?

In short, too bad for the IN (but I’m sure they will manage somehow).

Curious though as to what the maintenance/upgrade wil entail!

Right said. And interesting what the upgrades will be.

    Meanwhile some news..
Singapore and Indian navies conduct joint missile exercise

    dpa

SINGAPORE — India and Singapore’s navies conducted a 14-day exercise using combined surface-to-air missile live firing for the first time, Singapore’s

    defense ministry said Saturday.

Held in the Bay of Bengal from March 17 to March 29, the event has been held annually since 1994 and started with anti-submarine warfare exercises.

The Singapore-India Maritime Bilateral Exercise (SIMBEX) “has grown in scope and complexity, evolving to advanced naval water exercises covering the air, surface and sub-surface dimensions,” a statement said.

The Singapore navy sent a frigate, two missile corvettes and a landing ship tank. The Indian navy deployed a destroyer, a frigate, two corvettes, two missile boats, two fast-attack craft and one offshore patrol vessel, together with a submarine.

Both navies also deployed maritime patrol aircraft.

In addition to SIMBEX, the statement said both navies have regular interactions including exchange programs and courses.

Thanks for the replies. The IN and US has hit back at the CAG and thats relieving because nobody wants to see another deal-strings-sanction cycle to begin!

No restrictions on deployment of Jalashwa: Navy

Ridiculling a report by the national auditor that raised doubts over the ‘restrictive clauses’ on the deployment of INS Jalashwa—a former US Navy troop carrier—the Navy has said that the warship can be used in all roles possible and India has written permission from the US for the same.

US too says Jalashwa can be used in all roles

“There are no unique terms or language associated with the transfer. The same applies to hundreds of ships we have transferred (in the past) and do not limit the use of the warship by a sovereign country in achieving its national objectives,” Winter, who is on a three day visit to India, told reporters in the Capital on Friday.

And why do you keep saying that?Do you feel guilty inside for taking the other side here and is trying to justify to yourself? No need to answer that question..but think yourself.
