I think this has nothing to do with the stealth thing, is funny because everything that is wrong with the 35 and 22 programs, everything MUST has to do with the stealth thing…is like some sort of face saving measure, Im sure similar problems were faced on other compossite/aluminium airframes, but solved successfully.

The ATF program was badly mannaged from the beginning, but don’t worry, here is the stealth tale to save your face…

In what kind of parallel universe do you live? The MiG-29 took longer to develop than ANY of the teen series fighters. Must be a miserable programme according your logic!

First flight 1977, introduction 1983,more less 6 years, the F-16 took 4 years from it first flight to it introduction, i don’t see the big deal, with it prototype carrying basically the same configuration to the serial product, some changes here and there but nothing radical, it was a successful program.

Took a bit longer, right, but not an eternity

But here are some actual “official” drawings of the JXX / J-20 by Chengdu 611 Design Institute – or should I say what has been released thus far:confused:

If you look closer, it looks like a manipulated picture, very poorly manipulated

Probably has to do with their operative altitude?

Planes that operate or patrol at higher altitudes would need this antiglare patch (since sunlight is more intense), while planes operating at lower levels would not need it?

Mig-29 development was fast, the Su-27 was long, I accept it, but they did start again, i hardly would consider the original program with the final product, IMO the flanker deserved a nice cancellation.

The 27 was only a success because political support, otherwise the mig-29 that was a good and a fast program had truly became a success, I don’t consider the 27 a ‘winner’ design, the 29 definitevelly had everything but political support.

Eurocanards are mediocre, considering all the time passed, and the advancements that were not integrated, (like a damn electronic scanning radar for the typhoon), I would not consider them successes

To avoid sound that anti-russian…i must say the Pakfa was and is a nice surprise

Because they are slowly, methodically expanding the envelope, not “racing to convert non-believers”…

Btw, that was a -B model that achieved that speed too. Wonder what the lighter -A model can do…

    Really sound argument there mate…

Programs that are fast in their development have become truly successes, examples are the F-15, F-16, programs that went into the long road have become mediocre or failures, like the F-22, F-4 (yes, cry me a river), and now it seems the F-35 is following the same fate…seems, because nothing is said yet.

This is because a single good idea works better than one thousand patches

    I
Question: Did Israeli designers who had worked on the Lavi program advise, help refine and productionise the J-10 design.

    Answer: Yes.

    Answer: No.

Supposedly, they just passed some data about it plane, that’s all, what did China with this data?..we don’t really know, a lot of information is gathered by secret services, but does not mean that such information will be actually useful, but the airframe doesn’t lie, and the J-10 topology, scale, proportion and general aerodynamics are completely different from the lavi.

So the real answer is No

China hasn’t created independently any warplane. Or I am mistaken?
So, how can they create their own fifth-generation combat aircraft?

J-10 is completely a product from China, no matter what some writers from Janes say.

Taking some data of how a FBW system works does not mean they copied that trashy plane called Lavi.

I think the JF-17 is based on a Russian design

    Wonder who is claiming this

Wonder what happened with Crobato too.

Given that russians were researching the delta-canard configuration for it new generation fighter, and this research was lead by the main, most successful, and best design house at the end of the Soviet Union (Mig), I would not subestimate this configuration.

But we don’t know the real differences between the eurocanards, and the russian machines, the su-27 does hold some records, not only the experimental one, while the eurocanards honestly does not seem to have any trascendental achievement, same case for the f-22.

Aesa is not the big deal, btw

Just like I said before, LM has shot itself into its own foot. For years they have been trumpeting out F-22 as the best thing since sliced bread with SC, stealth and kinematic advantages, defined generations just to separate the new toy from everything else..

The bloody thing is that now they need to make money with a fighter that has none of the described virtues – is neither stealthy, nor fast. So they have to either disprove all the claims they have made before or make the F-35 look a bit better than it is by highlighting the few good things it has and keeping shut about everything else (especially speed, aerobatic capabilities and RCS).

Which is exactly what they’re doing.. And it’s funny to watch fans following whatever they spit out like a herd of brainless sheep.

I’m not a 35’s basher, but must say you are completely right

they chose a conventional layout for their F-35. wonder why.

Probably because stealth, you know….they did bother to design/test a whole airframe with faceted rules, internal bay arrange, and ops!..they forgot that canards would ruin it…

Well, the real reasons were the changing requirements for both the B and C model, for the B model, the increasing weight of the lift fan’s did force the designers to look for a more conventional wing (with a lift center ahead…which deltas don’t have), and for the C model the problem was similar, no lift fan, but supposedly such heavy plane with that delta wing would become troublesome for landings, this problem was not solved with a common design in the final F-35C layout, just take a look at the span of the wings.

    *************

Anyway, nice to see China advancing in it aerospace industry, let’s wait and see, as Deino said

On what basis do you say we have no real data? While no specific figures for the RCS of low-observable aircraft have been published

Russians have released the figure of 0.5m2 for both the 22 and the T-50, as average RCS value, USAF/rusian air force have claimed that their airborne radars can deal with stealth fighters

The claim of 30nm at 50,000ft seems perfectly reasonable. That’s not ‘Completely dubious…’ or ‘Fantasy numbers’ – it’s simple application of engineering principles to realistic data.

You take your own fanboy beliefs and make such wonderful conclusion…
