IMO the idea of such vessels for the marines is pretty dumb
Everything has it place, better to send that money for these new “Marines” carriers to the Navy..money that really need it, instead to mess the marines functions ,duties and objetives
And seriously..the 35B is overcomplicated for them, i think it will bring more headaches than advantages…better to send the 35B money to more practical systems like the sea-apache..or something similar
A modified harrier with the f135/136 maybe?, (i dont think it could fit), but maybe a smaller engine, but more powerful than the Pegasus
So apparently the Russians DID employ ballistic missiles – as I think even Bush said?
I was wondering if it was the Iskander, but the 58th army has SS-21s available (wonder if they are mod B or C?).
Is the Iskander being serially deployed now for the ground forces?
I heard its CEP is 17 meters, which is quite impressive.
A top Russian MOD official stated that no new weapons would be used/tested during this conflict. Was a press conference hosted by RIAN shown on RT.

INTERESTING FIND. Seems like the Iskander-M is indeed in service of the NORTH CAUCUSES force! So the attack could have been either the SS-21 or SS-26!
Where these missiles were targeting, and where was taken the pic above?
I must say that I am surprised the RU AF have managed to screw up so badly..
Geographically south ossetia is a SAM trap, dont expect a tons of Su-27’s flying arround
Israel didnt sent their F-15’s over Lebbanon in the 80’s war before cleanning the place from SA-3/6’s
I have seen the SO map, so all their air strikes comes from that corridor from the north?, is a bit complicated for the air force, actually, it can be SAM surrounded, someone could upload the map?
So LM has the logistic advantage, is not the 35 itself, but is the logistic chain , on that we must be clear since the 35 was not been tested yet
But were are talking about buying planes for the next 40 years. We cannot start in the past
Actually that quote seems a non-politcal reason, most likely they are considering the costs and operative reliability, you should be a bit more analytic , since the military also has their politic and economic interests
To carry the uncertainly and probable raising costs of the 35 seems more political, specially if they have not tested the jet
Its not competely clear cut who started what at this stage, some say the Georgians were provoked, baited if you like by South Ossetian rebels who were firing on Georgians, who to believe at this stage its impossible to know without some sort of third party looking into the timeline of events, even then evidence as to who started what exactly is going to be very hard to come by and piece together.
Dude, on hot bordes/zones everybody is provoked….i bet there were some bullets here and ther on both sides, but that doesnt start such mobilization
Why did georgia started that agressive movilization?, there are internal problems?elections?
I think the georgian army thought the russian units nearby were not enough, well surprise, surprise
Edit: Although thinking about it, the terrain in Georgia is pretty densely covered with trees, and the Georgians aren’t just parading around on the roads I don’t think. Most of the stuff, except bases of course, like artillery/SAMs/etc are probably camouflaged, so what good would a guided missile / bomb be, unless you know the exact location of the enemy?
Yeah, they did make a lot of artillery on the chechenian conflict, because they didnt have the resources to a heavy aircraft operation
Now they didnt make a lot of artillery, but heavy su-25 bombing (it seems), the resoult is clear, they were fast enough to avoid the infantery mess
Probably not. I think pilots from Norway have tried the simulator.
What’s your point?
L
If they have not tested the 35, then how can they say they want it?
Sometimes people takes the opinion from one pilot and put it as the general opinion of the whole air force, tipical overhypping, that is an usual thing when ppl are talking about the stealthy thingys
Lets be objetive, and wait until the pilots test both grippenNG (or grippen), and the 35, lets dont rush in such unbased conclussions
I really dont think they are using very advance weapons on that campaign, that was a “surprise” for the russians, and the deployement needed to be fast, because if not..well the things would become very nasty -door to door street figthing-
They did it well, it was not the slow response on the mid 90s over the first chechenian war
I think it shows that the russian armed forces are way in better state than in the middle of the 90’s (especially i find surprising the most likely heavy operations from the su-25’s)
On the international view, well it seems it show that doesnt matter a lot if you are supported by the west (because ur oil), if the ruskies are near
Well..they should start to thinking on small cheap cruiser missiles, that was the key of the success on all the western main campaigns, on the case of russian conlicts an missile half or 1/3 the size of the normal cruiser subsonic type would suit very good
But then we should understand that the russian campaign was a fast local response, something quite different from other conflicts (in which in betwen the “diplomatic” babbling was a military movilization with their best units)
And then , most probably , most of their targets were movable on a difficult geography, so you should need planes..
What it seems is that su-25’s were heavely used , instead of a heavy artillery aplication
“pilots want the F-35”
Hmm..pilots from Norway have flown the 35?
Guys..that is the reason DarkDuke is asking for twin-jet fighters
For the EF the reason for their lower roll rate could be the lack of tailplanes (that is the reason why US designs dont like canards), althought that depend at which speed/regime, since rolls can do also with out great tailplane intervention, remember that both Eurocanards have their engines pretty close each other (so we should expect better inertial momentum integer), but also we should count the induced drag of the wing area and the wing shape, for that asepct the Rafale roll is very good, confirming somewhat my suspects for it better dogfighting performance (but then we dont know if is the operative figure)
What is surprising is the Su-27 roll rate…despite it has huge aspect wings, huge tailfins and very spaced engines, it can perform a pretty decent roll..nice controls i guess (and nice placement of these controls, maybe the fin surface/tilplane interaction have something to do with it)
The f-22 should be at the same figures (i think)
But, but..you dont understand! imagine these huge quantities of coffee over the electronic boards!…man that Awacs is dead just by the splited coffee..
At least u learned that…
