The Aviation Museum has moved out of Otopeni Intl. Its new location is at the former airfield in Pipera, a couple of kilometers down the road towards the Center of Bucharest. Hope to have helped you.
A picture of Tiyas AFB sporting two Syrian AF Su-24MK Fencers!
I wish I had something better to offer but hey, at least finally a proof that they actually exist! And a proof that they are painted a desert camo, not grey as often stated.
Second pic shows ten SyAAF MiG-25PDs at the same AFB, third one two MiG-25RBs at Dumayr AFB.
Congratulations on your 6000th post flex!
Now, I hope it dosn’t sound impolite, but take a look at what I’ve posted among others on 25th August in #390 of “fun with google earth”:
(Stratosaurus is also consistently ignoring my posts…)
Just found…
Very sad, but also very interesting image. Here is one from happier times:
IAR-93#200
Could this be an Angolan SU-24 amongst the Su-25s and Su-22 at Catumbela AB? 😀
It’s probably a Su -24, sitting next to what is certainly a Su-22, but the three smaller aircraft are in no case Su-25s. They’re some kind of trainers-they seem to me like L-29s; don’t know though if they’re included in their inventory.
Here’s a (very) low-res pic of 114 with the original camo, from “Cer Senin” magazine.
Small but very enlightening. Keep it up googeler!
…Here are two pics from an airshow at Ianca AB on April 21 2001 – the IAR-93s were grounded since 1998, and never flew with this camo scheme.
Very nice images googeler! As for the greek implication, I’ll try to do some research on that in the near future.
[QUOTE=MiGMan]somali Hips
and some migs
Very, very interesting pictures MiGMan, especially the one showing the MiGs.
Do you have more from this album? Or could you post the relevant link?
IAR-93#226:
Does anyone have any information on a presentation of a IAR-93 to a greek delegation, headed probably by the defence minister at that time, during a state visit in Bucharest, sometime around late 1985 or early 1986?
Relevant footage of around 30″, covering the said visit, was then broadcast on greek TV, including about 5-6 seconds showing the IAR-93. Has anyone heard of this?
Message to googeler:
Hi googeler
I have sent a reply to your message: did you receive it?
The first pic is not a MiG-21 F-13, but its predecessor, MiG-21 F !!!! , recognizable by the small tail (a very rare bird, built in relatively small numbers from 1959 to 1961; I never knew it got exported).
It also appears, from a slightly different position in post #293 of this thread, by tbzz.
The cubans had it too:
Here is another scan showing #001:
Yup…took the photos at the new location in Pipera a few days after it was brought to its new grave..sorry….home. I`m not sure..but I think there`s a story behind #112. It did look pretty neat and tidy when I photoed it. I`ll go on Thursday to see it 😀
The photos with the old livery aren`t working for me.
Here is the one I had posted yesterday, plus a very nice photo from incas.ro, which is showing only half of the starboard side though. Would anyone have a better one?
here it is, but it’s a bit different from the b/w pic posted by George_nkl
Thanks a lot googeler! You can imagine how long I’ve been searching for this picture. Would you mind telling me what the source is? some book probably?
Also, if you have more pictures of #001, please post them.
Her is an aggregate image showing both the port and starboard side of #001. I’m very interested in seeing its upper surfaces. Googeler offered to post a scan of the001 picture I’ve posted earlier; would be really interesting.
It failed to show up. I’ll try again.
