BBMF’s last 10 days
Right just got back, so let me clear up a few things
PM631 is still at Southend and should be back at Coningsby next week, by road when the engine will be removed and sent to Retro for checking. No one has said the engine is a write off.
PZ865 should be back at the end of the week after the radiator has been replaced
LF363 is still under investigation and will probably return to Coningsby by road, she isn’t as badly damaged as she looks. We have an idea of what happened but I can’t give you any info at this time. I hope you all will understand. The fire section and DAS were excellent with the handling of this incident and caused no further damage when putting her back on her legs
PA474 /AB910 / MK356/ ZA947 finally what a fantastic tribute to the veterans these 4 a/c were for the D-Day celebrations, especially the poppy drop.
Lastly ROBL250 it’s not Becky she left at the beginning of the year, sorry.

Fluffy’s wife here, he left to go down to Duxford as soon as he heard, taking a team to see what they could do, so you will all no doubt hear more news at the same time as myself…..when he walks in the door!!
It was PS915 flown by Sqn Ldr “Shiney” Simmons
I met Bobby when we had the roll out ceremony for black 6 at Raf Benson. He was a great character with loads of stories to tell of his exploits, including flying black6 against the sqn’s P40s. He is really nice guy and very deserving of this award.
Well done.
Stormin’
Was that the aircraft or you!!!!!!!!!!!1
No it was definately a syncro pair and yes it has been done in the past.
Vdm manuals
Have you tried Duxford’s archive library they used to charge about £30 per manual they have a lot of German A/C manuals I think the one you are after is VDM L.dv514 it gives details of various props and spinners if you have no luck Iwill speak to Russ Snadden as I believe we had a copy when we were operating Black 6
Fluffy
Have you tried VDM propellers on google they made most of the prop/hubs Part nos usually begin 9- followed by 5 numbers then a letter hope this helps.

I don’t understand why you feel upset by the stripping down of the two Mk XVI’s, it was even sadder to see them in the state they were in after years of neglect. They now however are being used of spares for the rest of the flight and that doesn’t just mean taking parts off and fitting them on to something else!!
I don’t know why you said that because nobody would do that without checking the components were fit for use.
So far one engine has been completely overhauled and is in the Lanc. All the flying controls ailerons, rudders, flaps and one elevator are being refurbished and as reported in flypast a rudder has been fitted to the MkIX. The wings are getting the same treatment.
The lowback fuselage is nearing completion as is the tailplane, various other components have had the same treatment and now sit in our stores ready for use
Both aircraft had been neglected to the point that although they may have looked like the real thing alot of components had been stripped out or even replaced with fibreglass replicas and even a broom handle was fitted for a control column. The highback Mk16 has been completely stripped and no longer exists , but with the frames and components salvaged it means the flight has a healthy supply of spares for the future.
Oh and yes we can take spares from private donors.

I understand BAE calculate the flying hours/ fatique we do every year and on that basis they have come up with a rolling programme of major components they believe require replacement ie fin spars replaced 2 yrs ago, tailplane spars are due in about 6-8 yrs time, engines /props are not a problem at the moment. The flight at this time has a very secure future but it could change.

Forget my last post I can’t read.
Yes, but it’s not in Lincolnshire
I can’t remember the Lancs turret’s being hyd powered, but all 3 can be can be hand turned. Several years ago two of us remade and installed all the piping for all the turret systems. Each turret has its own independant hyd system ie pump, recuperator ( crude accumulator) and reservoir etc.
It could be possible we believe to get the mid upper working but it will cost quite a bit and unfortunately the cost is the problem.
When that day comes you will be able to visit her in her new hangar in my back garden for £550 and watch undercarriage retractions and if you are lucky we might start her up.
